Search Aerospace & Defense Jobs in PennsylvaniaAerospace & Defense STEM OPT Sponsorship Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
Which aerospace and defense companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania hosts several large prime contractors and defense suppliers with documented STEM OPT sponsorship activity. Lockheed Martin has a significant presence in King of Prussia, and companies like Sikorsky, L3Harris, and Raytheon Technologies operate facilities in the greater Philadelphia and southeastern Pennsylvania region. Smaller defense-focused engineering firms in the Pittsburgh area also participate in STEM OPT sponsorship, particularly for systems engineering and software roles.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most aerospace and defense F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
The Philadelphia metropolitan area, including King of Prussia and Malvern in the western suburbs, concentrates the highest density of aerospace and defense STEM OPT sponsorship activity in Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh supports a growing defense technology and advanced manufacturing cluster with sponsoring employers in robotics and autonomous systems. Horsham and Willow Grove, near active and former military installations, also attract defense contractors with STEM hiring needs.
What types of aerospace and defense roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify for STEM OPT typically align with STEM-designated Classification of Instructional Programs codes. In aerospace and defense, this commonly includes systems engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering, software development for embedded or avionics systems, data science applied to defense analytics, and materials science positions. The employer must be enrolled in E-Verify and the role must directly relate to the student's qualifying STEM degree field, as confirmed by the student's designated school official.
How do I find aerospace and defense F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship type, including F-1 STEM OPT, and by industry and location, making it straightforward to search verified aerospace and defense postings in Pennsylvania. Because sponsorship willingness is surfaced at the listing level, you can focus applications on employers who have confirmed they support STEM OPT candidates rather than discovering eligibility only after applying through general job boards.
Are there state-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Pennsylvania's aerospace sector?
Pennsylvania's defense contractors frequently work on federal contracts requiring security clearances. F-1 STEM OPT students are generally not eligible for U.S. security clearances as non-U.S. persons, which can limit access to certain classified program roles. However, many unclassified engineering, software, and research positions at Pennsylvania defense primes remain open to STEM OPT candidates. Confirm clearance requirements with each employer early in the application process, as requirements vary by program and contract.
