Which aerospace & defense companies in Georgia sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Lockheed Martin's Marietta facility, Gulfstream Aerospace in Savannah, and L3Harris Technologies are among the larger aerospace and defense employers in Georgia with documented STEM OPT hiring history. Smaller contractors and subcontractors supporting Dobbins Air Reserve Base and Robins Air Force Base also participate in STEM OPT sponsorship, though availability varies by role, security clearance requirements, and annual hiring cycles.
Which cities in Georgia have the most aerospace & defense F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Marietta and the greater Atlanta metro area lead Georgia for aerospace and defense STEM OPT positions, driven by Lockheed Martin's large manufacturing presence and a cluster of defense subcontractors. Savannah is a strong secondary market anchored by Gulfstream Aerospace. Warner Robins, home to Robins Air Force Base and its surrounding contractor community, also generates engineering and logistics roles that may qualify for STEM OPT.
What types of aerospace & defense roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Georgia?
Roles that typically qualify are those tied to STEM-designated Classification of Instructional Programs codes, which generally include aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, software engineering, and materials science. In Georgia's aerospace sector, positions in avionics design, aircraft structural analysis, propulsion systems, manufacturing engineering, and quality assurance frequently meet STEM OPT eligibility criteria, provided the employer has an active E-Verify enrollment as required by USCIS.
How do I find aerospace & defense F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Georgia?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international students on F-1 STEM OPT and filters aerospace and defense roles in Georgia by verified sponsorship history. Rather than sorting through general postings, you can search by visa type and state to surface employers who have previously sponsored STEM OPT candidates in this industry. Checking DOL Labor Condition Application filings through OFLC Wage Search can also confirm which Georgia employers have an active sponsorship track record.
Are there any Georgia-specific or industry-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in aerospace & defense?
Many Georgia aerospace and defense positions involve work on U.S. government contracts, which can create security clearance requirements that limit eligibility for non-U.S. persons, including F-1 STEM OPT holders. While STEM OPT authorization is legally separate from clearance eligibility, candidates should confirm with employers early in the process whether a role requires or may eventually require a clearance, as this affects long-term employment prospects even if the initial STEM OPT period is authorized.
