Your eyes contain a map of your systemic health. Retinal imaging can reveal early signals of cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration, diabetes and more, often years before symptoms appear. This emerging field known as oculomics is reshaping how we understand whole body health through ophthalmic data.
Topcon Healthcare is building the data infrastructure, foundation models, and clinical evidence required to bring oculomics to scale. With one of the largest connected device networks in eye care we are pioneering a new generation of clinically meaningful AI that leverages multimodal retinal imaging to drive innovation in diagnostics and personalized medicine.
Position Overview
Topcon Healthcare is looking to offer an internship program from June 1, 2026, until August 14, 2026. This is a paid program located in the Oakland NJ office. The hours for this program are Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm. Come join the Topcon Healthcare team to help build real-world skills and knowledge to influence your education and career path.
We are seeking an exceptionally driven and innovative PhD level Algorithm Intern to join our AI Oculomics team for Summer 2026. This paid internship is in either our Oakland NJ or La Jolla CA office. The role is designed for candidates eager to advance deep learning medical imaging and translational AI research in ophthalmic diagnostics.
You will work alongside experienced researchers in AI imaging and clinical science to develop next generation algorithms that support both ophthalmic diagnostics and large scale oculomics research. - Collaborate closely with clinical researchers, imaging experts, product management and other cross-functional teams.
- Contribute to scientific documentation including manuscripts presentations and conference abstracts.
- Support exploratory and research driven projects as needed.
By the end of the summer, you will produce a clean, well-documented dataset and/or algorithm package that the team will actively use, including clear documentation of methods, assumptions, and results.
Benefits:
- Hands‑on experience developing cutting‑edge AI and deep learning models for real‑world clinical use.
- Full lifecycle exposure, from data acquisition and normalization through model evaluation and regulatory grade documentation. These skills transfer directly into careers in industry, academia, or med tech.
- Strong mentorship through daily collaboration with clinical scientists, AI researchers, computer vision engineers, and biostatisticians. You will be part of a team that publishes at ARVO, builds production AI, and supports pharma clinical trials.
- Exposure to collaborative research across AI, data science, imaging, and clinical science.
- Opportunities to contribute to publications, clinical research, and translational diagnostic innovation.
- Concrete project output. You will leave with a well-defined project outcome that you can discuss in depth during interviews or in graduate school or fellowship applications.
Qualifications:

Which medical devices companies sponsor TN visas in New Jersey?
New Jersey hosts several major medical devices employers with established TN sponsorship histories, including Johnson & Johnson (headquartered in New Brunswick), Becton Dickinson (Franklin Lakes), Integra LifeSciences (Princeton), and Siemens Healthineers (Malvern operations serving NJ). Mid-size contract manufacturers and regulatory consulting firms in the Morris County and Route 1 corridor also hire TN workers, particularly for engineering and scientific roles.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most medical devices TN sponsorship jobs?
The highest concentration of medical devices TN sponsorship jobs in New Jersey falls along the Route 1 corridor between New Brunswick and Princeton, plus the Morris County cluster around Parsippany and Florham Park. Franklin Lakes in Bergen County is another key hub given Becton Dickinson's headquarters there. Somerset County, including Bridgewater and Raritan, also has significant medtech employer presence.
What types of medical devices roles typically qualify for TN sponsorship?
TN visa eligibility in the medical devices sector generally covers roles requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific discipline. Engineers (mechanical, electrical, biomedical, quality, manufacturing) and scientists (chemists, biologists, physicists) in product development, regulatory affairs, and R&D commonly qualify. Regulatory affairs specialists with a relevant science degree, clinical specialists with a nursing or life sciences background, and quality assurance engineers are also frequently sponsored in New Jersey medtech companies.
How do I find medical devices TN sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search medical devices TN sponsorship jobs in New Jersey, with listings filtered specifically by visa type and industry so you are not sifting through postings that won't support TN status. You can narrow results to New Jersey and the medical devices sector to surface roles at companies actively working with TN applicants, which saves significant time compared to unfiltered job searches.
Are there any New Jersey-specific considerations for TN sponsorship in medical devices?
New Jersey's medtech industry is heavily regulated, and many roles involve FDA-regulated products, which can strengthen the case that a position requires specialized education, a core TN eligibility factor. However, job titles in areas like sales or general project management can face more scrutiny if the degree requirement is not clearly tied to the role. Employers in NJ's medtech sector are generally experienced with work visa processes, but TN eligibility is determined role by role, not by employer history alone.
