The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) is the state agency that is responsible for the planning, designing, construction, maintenance and operations of the surface transportation infrastructure and associated systems and services in New Mexico with the exception of those that are the responsibility of local entities (counties and municipalities). The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Bureau utilizes data, information and advanced communications technologies to facilitate the safer and more efficient operations of that surface transportation infrastructure.
As a valued new employee to NMDOT, you may be eligible to receive three (3) days of administrative leave upon your start date. This is applicable to external hires not within the State of New Mexico Government.
PURPOSE:
This position exists to support the Department's compliance with federal requirements associated with collecting, sharing, reporting, and disseminating of information on road and travel conditions in real time to the affected transportation stakeholders. To meet these requirements, various applications and systems are needed.
This position is responsible for the collection and evaluation of information and data to operationally support the ITS Bureau.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this position will include:
- Ensure the ITS Bureau is operationally effective and complies with the federal requirements incumbent on intelligent transportation systems;
- Manage, maintain and operate the following:
- Bureau's Geographical Information Systems (GIS) mapping activities used for asset inventory;
- ITS certification and clearance program;
- 811 (NM One-call) compliance;
- ATIS (advanced traveler information system - NMRoads) infrastructure incorporation;
- Field infrastructure maintenance and repair activities;
- Project implementation and equipment deployment;
- ITS Architecture mapping;
- Act as the quality assurance and quality control for NMRoads operational features and daily reporting system's functionality;
- Provide support to ITS project design, development, deployment and construction activities.
CUSTOMERS
Internal customers include ITS operations staff (ITS Engineering Mgr and Engineering Coordinator), ITS administrative staff (Financial admin), ITS field staff, ITS-IT staff and ITS-TMC (Transportation Management Center) staff. External customers within the Department include ATIS administrators; external customers to the Department include project contractors, project designers, and the traveling public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required experience.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical. Reference check and Driver's License verification are required and employment is conditional pending results.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is in both an office setting and in the field at locations with routine exposure to traffic, heights, confined spaces, and the elements. Working conditions will entail traveling within the state, sharing in after-hours and weekend on-call assignments with other ITS staff and lifting up to 35-pounds. When work is performed in an office setting it entails exposure to visual/video display terminals and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some out-of-state travel might be entailed when attending either training and our trade conferences.
