Why does the job exist?
This position will provide implementation and operational support to the new system. This position may also provide operational support to the existing system during the transition period.
How does it get done?
This position will work within our three person database administration team and be responsible for the support, management, maintenance, and operation of our Microsoft SQL databases.
The applicant will need to create and maintain databases, manage permissions, perform server and software maintenance, monitor databases, upgrade databases, perform database backups and restores, troubleshoot issues, write and modify SQL queries, and provide long term planning and guidance.
This position will work directly with, and will need to communicate effectively with, our DBA team, our Operations team, PED Program partners, external Program partners, IT PED staff and Leadership.
This position requires the ability to perform and accomplish job requirements with minimal direction and/or supervision; the ability to work successfully in a team environment; and the ability to apply industry best practices.

Public Education Department staff as well as staff at Local Education Agencies (LEAs, i.e. school districts and charter schools) and school staff.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in data analysis, design, storage, and security. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
