The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Information Technology Division as an IT Network & Telecoms Administrator – Journey.
Do you want to play a part in helping to manage, sustain, and protect the health and productivity of Washington’s lands and waters to meet the needs of present and future generations? If so, join the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) IT Division as a Network Engineer. We’re seeking an excellent communicator with strong customer service skills to join us in supporting our vibrant and diverse agency in its mission, to work as part of a cohesive team, and to uphold a professional and positive demeanor while working under tight deadlines as priorities shift.
This position serves as an agency technical resource for enterprise network management and plays a key role in guiding the direction and development of DNR’s local and wide area networks. This position supports the effort to plan, coordinate, and implement the many projects currently underway or on the horizon. This position consults internal customers and projects for networking needs and assesses new technologies and methods with other teams in ITD and the agency. This position is responsible for helping to create and shape the overall agency networking strategic direction.
Please note: This position has the flexibility to work remotely part-time; however, the duty station is in Olympia, Washington, and the successful candidate must agree to travel to the office for key scheduled meetings or as operational needs dictate. Details of teleworking considerations will be addressed during the interview process.
Duties
Responsibilities:
Local and Wide Area Network Support:
- Fully Support, configure, maintain and upgrade local and wide area network environments.
- Coordination and negotiation of WAN circuit upgrades, downgrades, migrations based on the agency business needs.
- Configuration and operation of protocol independent multicast (PIM) and Internet group management protocol (IGMP) for the operation of Radio over IP (RoIP) services.
- Configuration and operation of multiple dynamic routing protocols.
- Work independently, with other teams and/or with vendors to document, implement and maintain network infrastructure.
- Assist in the implementation of security solutions that fall within the best practices of enterprise network infrastructure.
Next Generation Firewall Support: Serves as a technical resource for the agency NGFW solution.
- Monitor, analyze and evaluate anomalous network and system activity and provide and implement recommended remediation actions.
- Process firewall policy changes based on agency business requirements.
- Maintain detailed documentation of NGFW environment.
Wireless Local Area Network Support: Serves as a technical resource for the agency WLAN environment.
- Purchase, license, configure and deployment of wireless access points.
- Assist in the upgrade and future replacement of the WLAN environment.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
You must meet all the Required Qualifications and Competencies to be considered for this position. - BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other closely related field AND 4 (four) years of relevant professional IT Network & Telecommunications experience;
OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. - Experience working with a medium or large-sized organization in the areas of network and communications infrastructure and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience in creating detailed technical documentation and procedures.
Required Competencies: Accustomed to communicating technical concepts, system updates, and troubleshooting steps clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
- Exercises sound judgment when determining escalation paths and recommending solutions.

Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment: Office Environment: This position's assigned duty station is the NRB Building located in Olympia, WA. This position is eligible for hybrid telework arrangements with prior approval from their direct supervisor.

- Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology.
