The primary purpose of this position is to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and fiscal sustainability within the bureau. By providing strategic oversight to assigned projects and managing day-to-day operations, including procurement, financial tracking, and IT collaboration, this position acts as the central engine for bureau efficiency. Furthermore, the role protects the organization's integrity and resources by securing vital contracts and grants, managing critical program data, and ensuring strict compliance with public records requests.
How does it get done?
- Assist in contract management, reconciliation, grant requirements, track/manage fees, and equipment
- Follow up on delinquent debt and assist with enforcement actions
- Submit reports and public records, review data analytics, and complete data entry
- Create and manage a centralized email system
- Coordinate with Air Quality Bureau (AQB) staff, owners of permitted facilities, State Records and Archives, NMED General Counsel, NMED IT, and the public

- Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not-for-profit organizations

Minimum Qualification
Associate Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Accounting and one (1) year of directly related job experience in the areas of office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management, contract management, and/or in the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling three (3) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage under sometimes stressful situations. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
