Which companies sponsor visas for construction superintendents in New York?
Large general contractors with active New York operations are the most consistent sponsors for construction superintendent roles. Turner Construction, Skanska USA, Tishman Construction, Suffolk Construction, and AECOM have all filed H-1B petitions for construction management positions. These firms work on projects large enough to justify the sponsorship process and typically have in-house legal teams or retained immigration counsel to manage it.
Which visa types are most common for construction superintendent roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for construction superintendents in New York, though it requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is typically required. The O-1A is an option for candidates with documented exceptional achievement. Candidates from Canada or Mexico may also explore the TN visa under the engineer or scientist categories, depending on their credentials.
Which cities in New York have the most construction superintendent sponsorship jobs?
New York City, particularly Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens, accounts for the overwhelming majority of construction superintendent sponsorship opportunities in the state. Major infrastructure projects including Hudson Yards, the Second Avenue Subway extensions, and ongoing commercial development keep demand high. Buffalo and Albany have smaller but active markets tied to public works and state-funded capital projects, particularly as federal infrastructure funding continues to flow into upstate New York.
How to find construction superintendent visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility, making it straightforward to identify construction superintendent roles in New York where employers are open to sponsoring international candidates. General job boards mix sponsored and non-sponsored listings without distinction. On Migrate Mate, you can browse construction superintendent openings in New York and see sponsorship details clearly, which saves significant time compared to reaching out to employers speculatively.
Are there state-specific considerations for construction superintendent visa sponsorship in New York?
New York State and New York City both enforce prevailing wage requirements on public works projects, which means sponsored construction superintendents on government contracts must be paid at rates set by the Department of Labor. Employers filing H-1B petitions must already meet federal prevailing wage standards through the Labor Condition Application process. New York City also has specific licensing requirements for site safety managers and superintendents working on larger projects, which international candidates should factor into their job search.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored construction superintendent jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
