Which renewable energy companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in New York?
Ørsted, Avangrid, Con Edison, and Consolidated Edison Development have active presences in New York and have historically filed Labor Condition Applications for roles. Offshore wind developers operating out of New York City and Long Island, along with solar and energy storage firms upstate near Albany and Syracuse, are among the most active F-1 STEM OPT employers in the state's renewable energy sector.
Which cities in New York have the most renewable energy F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
New York City concentrates the most sponsorship activity, particularly for energy analytics, grid modernization, and corporate sustainability roles at utility headquarters. Albany sees hiring tied to state energy policy and NYSERDA-adjacent organizations. Long Island is a hub for offshore wind project development and operations. Buffalo and Rochester have emerging clean energy manufacturing and solar development activity driven by state incentive programs.
How do I find renewable energy F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters renewable energy jobs in New York by F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship eligibility, showing only employers with verified Labor Condition Application filing history for STEM roles. This saves time compared to manually reviewing OFLC disclosure data. Search by city, role type, and degree field to match openings to your specific STEM OPT authorization window and program end date.
What types of renewable energy roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in New York?
Roles most likely to qualify include electrical engineering, power systems engineering, data science applied to grid operations, environmental engineering, and software development for energy management platforms. These positions typically require degrees in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or environmental science, all of which are STEM-designated fields. Project management and policy roles without a direct STEM degree requirement generally do not qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension.
Are there New York-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in renewable energy?
New York's Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act has accelerated state-level clean energy hiring, meaning more employers are actively building STEM teams for offshore wind, solar, and storage projects. However, employers must still be enrolled in E-Verify and meet all USCIS STEM OPT requirements regardless of state incentives. New York City's competitive hiring market can mean faster timelines, but sponsorship is never automatic and depends on the employer's specific filing history and internal HR capacity.
