Which fintech companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in New York?
Major New York fintech and financial technology employers with documented STEM OPT hiring include Bloomberg, Citibank, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Two Sigma, and Jane Street. Fintech-focused startups in the Flatiron District and Hudson Yards corridor also participate in STEM OPT authorization. Sponsorship practices vary by firm and role, so confirming directly with the employer's HR or talent acquisition team is the most reliable approach.
Which cities in New York have the most fintech F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Manhattan accounts for the overwhelming majority of fintech STEM OPT positions in New York, particularly in Midtown, the Financial District, and Hudson Yards. Brooklyn's DUMBO and Williamsburg neighborhoods host a growing cluster of fintech startups. Outside New York City, Buffalo and Albany have smaller but expanding fintech presences tied to financial services and insurtech, though employer density remains significantly higher in the metro area.
What types of fintech roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify for STEM OPT must fall under a STEM-designated Classification of Instructional Programs code tied to the student's degree. In fintech, common qualifying positions include software engineers, data scientists, quantitative analysts, machine learning engineers, and cybersecurity specialists. Roles in financial analysis, compliance technology, and algorithmic trading can also qualify when paired with a STEM degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field. Degree-to-role alignment is the key determining factor.
How do I find fintech F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters fintech job listings specifically for F-1 STEM OPT eligibility in New York, surfacing employers with verified STEM OPT authorization history so you're not guessing which companies participate. You can search by fintech sub-sector, role type, and New York location to narrow results to employers actively hiring STEM OPT candidates. This is more targeted than general job searches, which don't filter by visa sponsorship type or employer authorization record.
Are there any New York-specific considerations for fintech F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
New York fintech employers hiring STEM OPT candidates must be enrolled in E-Verify, a federal requirement for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. New York State's dense concentration of financial services firms means many employers already meet this requirement, but students should confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting an offer. The Designated School Official at your university must also approve the STEM OPT extension, and the employer must complete a formal training plan as part of the authorization process.
