ABOUT DAVID ENERGY
David Energy is creating a new kind of power company. We offer cheaper and cleaner energy than traditional Retail Electricity Providers (REPs) can, and we do so economically because we can tap into renewable supply (e.g. solar) and controllable capacity (e.g. batteries) anywhere it exists, including "behind" customers’ electricity meters. We’re a series A company aiming to run the grid on clean energy 24/7/365.
We’re rapidly scaling our "Beat the Utility" product which guarantees small commercial customers that their total electric spend will be less than their incumbent utility. We can make this guarantee because our technology and risk management unlock value that is not available to the utility. We're currently operating in NYC (NYISO Zone J) and scaling toward hundreds of new customer locations per month, with plans to expand to additional zones and ISOs across the Northeast.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Field Technician to help deploy and activate battery systems across our growing customer base.
This role is responsible for the on-site assessment, installation and integration of batteries to connect customers to the David Energy platform. Field Technicians perform the hands-on work that turns a signed customer into an operational energy asset delivering real savings.
You will work closely with our customer success, product operations, and engineering teams to ensure installations are executed safely, reliably, and according to company playbooks.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys technical work in the field, troubleshooting real-world systems, and helping build the operational foundation of a rapidly scaling energy company.
Responsibilities
- Install battery systems and related electrical equipment at customer sites while following company installation procedures and safety standards.
- Connect batteries to the platform to ensure systems can communicate with cloud software and monitoring systems.
- Ensure installations meet technical specifications and safety requirements by completing QA checks, documenting installations, and capturing installation records.
- Diagnose and resolve installation or connectivity issues in the field, escalating technical challenges when necessary.
- Assist with customer handoff by confirming systems are operational, explaining basic functionality, and ensuring a positive on-site experience.
- Support battery inventory management and storage operations.
- Provide feedback from field installations to help improve installation playbooks, tools, and operational workflows as the company scales.
- Coordinate with other vendors and team members to ensure timely completion of work.
REQUIREMENTS
- Based in the New York City area to implement at sites across the city.
- Hands-on experience in a technical field installation or service role (solar, batteries, electrical systems, HVAC, telecommunications, or similar industries).
- Basic understanding of electrical systems, networking, or hardware integration.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose issues in real-world environments.
- Ability to follow structured installation procedures and safety standards.
- Comfortable working in the field at commercial customer sites.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to document installation work accurately.
- Comfortable working with technology (apps, David Energy software platform) as needed.
- Ability to communicate clearly with both customers and internal teams.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and remain on your feet while moving between sites throughout the day.
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
Every system installed by this team becomes a controllable energy asset that helps power the grid with clean energy.
Field Technicians ensure that:
- Customers activate quickly and reliably
- Energy systems operate correctly from day one
- Deployments scale smoothly as the company grows
- Field insights improve how installations are performed
This role is critical to turning David Energy’s technology platform into real-world infrastructure deployed across hundreds of locations.
BENEFITS
- Group medical and dental insurance
- Flexible vacation/PTO policy
- 401k plan
- Pay Range - $60,000-$80,000

Which companies sponsor visas for field technicians in New York?
Companies with documented H-1B and other work visa sponsorship for technical roles in New York include Verizon, Siemens Healthineers, Con Edison, IBM, and various biomedical equipment firms operating out of the New York City metro area and upstate hubs like Rochester and Buffalo. Larger enterprises and multinational corporations tend to have established immigration infrastructure, making them more consistent sponsors than smaller regional contractors.
Which visa types are most common for field technician roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most frequently used visa for field technician roles that require a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field, such as biomedical engineering or electronics. The H-2B is sometimes used for temporary or seasonal field work that is not degree-dependent. The TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical occupations. Eligibility depends on the specific duties of the role and the employer's classification of the position.
How to find field technician visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers are open to visa sponsorship, including field technician positions across New York. Rather than sorting through general job boards, you can browse Migrate Mate's curated listings to identify opportunities in the telecom, utilities, and healthcare equipment sectors that are common in New York City, Long Island, and upstate metro areas. Creating a profile helps match you with relevant openings as they are posted.
Which cities in New York have the most field technician sponsorship jobs?
New York City and its surrounding metro area, including Long Island and parts of Westchester, account for the largest concentration of field technician sponsorship opportunities due to the density of healthcare systems, telecom infrastructure, and industrial facilities. Rochester has a notable cluster of optics and photonics employers, including legacy firms from the Kodak and Xerox ecosystem. Buffalo and Albany also have active markets tied to utilities, manufacturing, and government-adjacent technical services.
Are there state-specific considerations for field technicians seeking visa sponsorship in New York?
New York State has prevailing wage requirements that employers must meet when sponsoring workers under H-1B and related visa categories, and the New York City area typically falls in higher wage tiers due to its cost of living designation under Department of Labor guidelines. Field technicians in regulated industries such as utilities or medical devices may also need specific state licenses or certifications, which some employers factor into sponsorship decisions. Roles tied to government contracts can carry additional compliance requirements.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored field technician jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
