Which companies sponsor visas for field technicians in North Carolina?
Companies with a track record of sponsoring field technicians in North Carolina include Siemens Energy, ABB, Duke Energy, Ericsson, and Honeywell. These employers operate large facilities or service networks across the state and regularly file H-1B visa and H-2B visa petitions for technical field roles. Aerospace and advanced manufacturing firms in the Piedmont Triad region are also active sponsors for qualified candidates.
Which visa types are most common for field technician roles in North Carolina?
H-1B is the most common visa for field technician roles that require a relevant bachelor's degree and qualify as a specialty occupation, which typically applies to roles in instrumentation, controls, or telecommunications. H-2B covers temporary non-agricultural workers for seasonal or peak-demand field positions. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in specific eligible technical occupations. The right category depends on the role's educational requirements and employment terms.

Raleigh and the broader Research Triangle see demand from pharmaceutical manufacturing and telecommunications infrastructure companies. Greensboro and Winston-Salem in the Piedmont Triad have strong aerospace and advanced manufacturing sectors that also generate field technician openings with sponsorship potential.

Employers in regulated sectors like pharmaceuticals or utilities tend to have established HR and legal infrastructure for sponsorship. Research Triangle Park's university connections through NC State and UNC also create pipelines that some employers use when hiring internationally for technical roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored field technician jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
