Which companies sponsor visas for senior cybersecurity engineers in New York?
Financial institutions are among the most active sponsors in New York, including JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley. Large tech employers like IBM, Google, and Amazon also sponsor senior cybersecurity engineers at their New York offices. Healthcare systems such as NewYork-Presbyterian and Mount Sinai, along with defense contractors and consulting firms like Deloitte and Accenture, regularly file H-1B visa petitions for senior security roles.
Which visa types are most common for senior cybersecurity engineer roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for senior cybersecurity engineers in New York, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or a related field. The O-1A is an option for engineers with recognized achievements, publications, or industry awards. Intracompany transferees from multinational firms may also enter on L-1B visas for specialized knowledge roles.

Buffalo and Albany have growing opportunities tied to state government contracts and SUNY research initiatives. Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, and it filters senior cybersecurity engineer roles in New York by sponsorship history. Because not every job posting explicitly states sponsorship availability, Migrate Mate surfaces employers with verified H-1B filing records, saving you from applying to roles where sponsorship is unlikely. Filtering by New York and the cybersecurity engineering category narrows results to the most relevant active openings.
What should senior cybersecurity engineers know about New York's sponsorship market before applying?
New York's financial sector is heavily regulated under frameworks like NYDFS Cybersecurity Regulation (23 NYCRR 500), which creates sustained employer demand for senior security engineers with compliance and risk management expertise. This regulatory environment makes specialized skills in areas like threat detection, identity management, and incident response particularly valuable to sponsors. Candidates with certifications such as CISSP or CISM and experience in financial services or healthcare tend to attract stronger sponsorship interest from New York employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior cybersecurity engineer jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
