Which companies sponsor visas for service advisors in New York?
Large automotive dealer groups with multi-location operations in New York are the most consistent sponsors, including Penske Automotive, Asbury Automotive Group, and AutoNation franchises. Manufacturer-owned service centers and fleet maintenance operations for transit agencies like the MTA have also sponsored service advisors. Smaller independent dealerships rarely sponsor due to the administrative cost and complexity of the H-1B visa petition process.
Which visa types are most common for service advisor roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa for service advisors in New York, but it requires the employer to demonstrate the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in a specific field. Some candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship pursue the TN visa under the USMCA, which has no lottery. Applicants with extraordinary expertise may explore the O-1 visa, though that standard is difficult to meet for most service advisor roles.
Which cities in New York have the most service advisor sponsorship jobs?
New York City and its immediate suburbs, including White Plains, Yonkers, and areas across Long Island such as Garden City and Melville, account for the majority of service advisor openings with sponsorship potential. Albany and Buffalo have smaller but active dealership markets tied to regional automotive demand. The density of high-volume dealerships in Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island makes that corridor particularly active for experienced service advisors.
How to find service advisor visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters service advisor roles specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility, letting you browse New York opportunities without sifting through listings that won't consider international candidates. Because sponsorship willingness varies significantly by dealer group size and location, using Migrate Mate to identify which New York employers have an active sponsorship history saves meaningful time in your search and helps you prioritize outreach to the right organizations.
Are there state-specific considerations for service advisor visa sponsorship in New York?
New York employers sponsoring H-1B workers must comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which are benchmarked to the New York metropolitan area and tend to reflect the state's higher cost of living. Service advisors working in New York City dealerships also operate under New York State's stricter consumer protection and licensing regulations, so employers may place additional weight on industry certifications such as ASE credentials when evaluating sponsored candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored service advisor jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
