Which companies sponsor visas for architects in North Carolina?
Firms with a track record of sponsoring architects in North Carolina include Clark Nexsen, Neighboring Concepts, Gensler's Charlotte office, and Perkins&Will. Larger firms with significant project pipelines in healthcare, education, and mixed-use development tend to sponsor more consistently than smaller residential practices. Public agencies and university design departments occasionally sponsor as well, though they represent a smaller share of overall sponsorship activity.
Which visa types are most common for architect roles in North Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa for architects in North Carolina, since architecture is recognized as a specialty occupation requiring a professional degree in architecture. Employers must file a Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor before petitioning. O-1A visas are an option for architects with demonstrated extraordinary ability, such as published work, awards, or significant design recognition. TN status covers architects who are Canadian or Mexican citizens.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most architect sponsorship jobs?
Charlotte and Raleigh are the primary markets for architect sponsorship jobs in North Carolina. Charlotte's commercial and mixed-use development boom has driven consistent demand at larger firms, while Raleigh-Durham benefits from Research Triangle proximity, generating public-sector, university, and healthcare architecture work. Durham and Chapel Hill also see activity tied to university campus projects. Smaller markets like Greensboro and Winston-Salem have fewer sponsoring firms but are not without opportunity.
How to find architect visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have a history of visa sponsorship, making it more targeted than a general job search for architect positions in North Carolina. You can browse architecture openings by state and filter for firms in Charlotte, Raleigh, and other North Carolina cities. Reviewing DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data can also confirm which firms have sponsored architect roles in recent years.
Are there state-specific considerations for architects seeking visa sponsorship in North Carolina?
North Carolina requires architects to hold licensure through the North Carolina Board of Architecture, though international candidates can work under a licensed architect while pursuing licensure. The state's prevailing wage for architects is determined by DOL data and varies by metro area, with Charlotte and Raleigh commanding higher rates than smaller cities. North Carolina State University and UNC Charlotte produce a steady pipeline of local architecture graduates, so international candidates benefit from targeting larger firms with active federal or commercial project work.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architect jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
