Which companies in Ohio sponsor visas for developer roles?
Several large Ohio-based employers have consistent H-1B sponsorship histories for developer roles. Nationwide Insurance and Progressive in Columbus, Sherwin-Williams and KeyBank in Cleveland, and Kroger Technology and Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati regularly file Labor Condition Applications for software developers. Large consulting firms and tech contractors operating across Ohio also sponsor developers, particularly for enterprise software and cloud engineering positions.
Which visa types are most common for developer jobs in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa for developer roles in Ohio, as software development consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Some developers enter through L-1B intracompany transfer visas when relocating within a multinational employer. Canadian and Mexican nationals in developer roles may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA, which has no annual cap and no lottery.
Which Ohio cities have the most developer visa sponsorship jobs?
Columbus leads Ohio for developer sponsorship activity, driven by its concentration of insurance, financial services, and retail technology employers alongside a large Ohio State University graduate pipeline. Cleveland follows, supported by healthcare technology firms, banking, and manufacturing tech companies. Cincinnati has a growing base of developer sponsorship through its logistics, retail technology, and financial services sectors. All three cities have active consulting firm presences that also sponsor developers.
How to find developer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters developer job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search for open developer roles in Ohio without having to screen out employers who don't sponsor. The platform covers positions across Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati from employers with documented sponsorship histories. Filtering by state and role type on Migrate Mate is more efficient than sorting through general job boards where sponsorship status is rarely confirmed upfront.
Are there state-specific factors that affect developer visa sponsorship in Ohio?
Ohio's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B developers are set at the metropolitan level, so wages differ between Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati metro areas. Employers must certify on the Labor Condition Application that they will pay at least the prevailing wage for the role in the specific location. Ohio's strong university system, particularly Ohio State University and Case Western Reserve, creates a consistent pipeline of international students on OPT who are sponsored into H-1B status by Ohio-based tech employers each year.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored developer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
