Which companies sponsor visas for developers in North Carolina?
Red Hat in Raleigh, Cisco and Lenovo in Research Triangle Park, and Fidelity Investments in Durham and Charlotte are among the most active H-1B sponsors for developer roles in North Carolina. Large healthcare IT firms like Epic and Labcorp also sponsor developers. DOL LCA disclosure data shows consistent filings from these employers for software engineer and developer titles each fiscal year.
Which visa types are most common for developer roles in North Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa for developers in North Carolina, as software development roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. F-1 students from NC State, UNC, or Duke often work on OPT first, with employers transitioning them to H-1B. L-1 visas appear occasionally for developers transferring within multinational companies like Cisco or Lenovo.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most developer sponsorship jobs?
Raleigh and Durham, anchored by Research Triangle Park, account for the largest concentration of developer sponsorship jobs in the state. Charlotte is the second major hub, particularly for fintech and banking technology roles at firms like Honeywell and LendingTree. Cary and Morrisville, which sit within the Triangle metro, host significant tech campuses and contribute meaningfully to the sponsorship job count.
How to find developer visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship eligibility, making it practical to search for developer roles in North Carolina without sorting through positions that don't sponsor. You can filter by state and role type to surface active openings from Triangle-area tech firms, Charlotte fintech employers, and mid-market software companies across the state that have H-1B sponsorship history.
Are there any state-specific considerations for developers seeking sponsorship in North Carolina?
Research Triangle Park's density of tech employers means developers benefit from a competitive local market where H-1B sponsorship is relatively normalized. North Carolina's strong public university system, particularly NC State's computer science program, creates an active OPT-to-H-1B pipeline that many regional employers are experienced with navigating. Prevailing wage requirements for developer roles are determined by the DOL based on the specific job location, so wages in Raleigh and Charlotte may differ from smaller metros in the state.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored developer jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
