THE ROLE: Where design thinking meets production code.
Promega is looking for a Front-End Designer & Developer who thrives at the intersection of craft and engineering. You'll shape the digital experiences researchers interact with every day — translating brand intent into intuitive, accessible, beautifully built interfaces across promega.com and our broader network of affiliated sites.
This isn't a role for someone who only wants to build, or someone who only wants to design. The ideal candidate moves naturally between both, comfortable in Figma and equally comfortable pushing pixel-perfect, production-ready code. You'll be a critical bridge between our brand and design team and front-end engineering, helping to steward and evolve Promega's front-end design solutions as our web platform grows.
You'll be joining a team that's actively investing in AI-powered web capabilities. If you're curious about what modern web development looks like when AI is part of the workflow, not a replacement for skill, this is that team.
Apply today and include a portfolio link. We want to see both the design thinking and the code behind it.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Maintain, update, and enhance CMS and web solutions for Promega-affiliated sites, and provide development/design support for Promega.com as needed.
-
Develop front-end features and components using modern HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks such as React.
-
Build and refine templates, page layouts, and UI elements within content management systems such as WordPress and CraftCMS.
-
Create user interface designs, wireframes, and prototypes that support intuitive and positive user experiences.
-
Collaborate with internal partners to design and develop new content, pages, and user experiences that align with organizational objectives.
-
Ensure websites follow accessibility standards, performance best practices, and responsive design principles.
-
Troubleshoot front-end issues, coordinate resolutions, and implement improvements based on analytics and stakeholder feedback.
-
Apply strategic thinking to evaluate stakeholder requests, translate them into clear, actionable, user-centered solutions, and work independently to move projects from concept to execution.
-
Contribute to the evolution and consistency of design systems across supported sites.
-
Stay current with emerging web technologies, design trends, and AI-powered tools, and proactively incorporate them to improve development efficiency, user experience, and the overall quality of digital deliverables.
-
Demonstrates inclusion through their own words and actions and is accountable for a safe workspace. Acts with kindness, curiosity and respect for others.
-
Embracing and being open to incorporating Promega’s 6 Emotional & Social Intelligence (ESI) core principles in daily work.
-
Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
-
4–6+ years of professional experience in front-end development and UI/UX design.
-
Front-end development: HTML5, CSS3/Sass, JavaScript, and frameworks React and Tailwind.
-
CMS platforms: WordPress, CraftCMS, Sitecore or equivalent.
-
Design tools: Figma, including design tokens, variables, and component libraries.
-
Design system work: Experience maintaining and contributing to a shared component ecosystem.
-
UX fundamentals: Wireframing, prototyping, accessibility, responsive design.
-
Cross-functional collaboration: Comfortable working across design, dev, brand, and marketing teams.
-
Strong portfolio: Portfolio of design and development experience.
We're also interested in candidates with:
-
Web performance optimization and GEO/SEO knowledge.
-
Experience with analytics platforms such as GA4.
-
A strong visual design background that influences technical decisions, not just aesthetics.

Which companies sponsor visas for developers in Wisconsin?
Epic Systems in Verona is one of the most active sponsors for developer roles in Wisconsin, particularly for software engineers building healthcare applications. Northwestern Mutual and Johnson Controls in Milwaukee also file H-1B petitions for developers regularly. Rockwell Automation and Forefront Dermatology appear in DOL disclosure data as recurring sponsors for technical roles across the state.
Which visa types are most common for developer roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the primary visa category used to sponsor developers in Wisconsin, as software development and systems engineering qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Canadian and Mexican nationals working as developers may also be eligible for the TN visa, which does not require a lottery and can be obtained at the border or port of entry.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most developer sponsorship jobs?
Madison and Milwaukee account for the majority of developer sponsorship activity in Wisconsin. Madison benefits from the University of Wisconsin pipeline and the presence of Epic Systems, one of the largest private employers of H-1B developers in the state. Milwaukee's concentration of financial services, manufacturing technology, and insurance firms drives consistent sponsorship demand. Green Bay and Appleton also have emerging technology hiring activity.
How to find developer visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse developer roles in Wisconsin without sorting through positions that won't consider international candidates. You can filter by state and role type to surface active openings at Wisconsin employers who have a documented history of sponsoring developers, including positions in Madison, Milwaukee, and surrounding areas.
Are there state-specific considerations for developers seeking visa sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin does not have state-level visa programs, so sponsorship follows federal H-1B and PERM rules. Developers should be aware that DOL prevailing wage requirements apply based on the specific work location, and wages in Madison and Milwaukee differ from those in smaller Wisconsin cities. The University of Wisconsin system also generates a strong pool of OPT-eligible international graduates, which some Wisconsin employers actively recruit from before pursuing full H-1B sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored developer jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
