Which companies sponsor visas for developers in Nebraska?
Omaha-based employers are the most active sponsors for developer roles in Nebraska. Mutual of Omaha, Union Pacific, and Nelnet have filed H-1B petitions for software engineers and application developers in recent years. TD Ameritrade (now part of Charles Schwab) and several healthcare technology firms in the region also have histories of sponsoring international developers. Nebraska's insurance and financial services sector drives consistent demand.
Which visa types are most common for developer roles in Nebraska?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for developers in Nebraska, as software engineering and related roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Developers already holding OPT or STEM OPT authorization can work while their employer files an H-1B petition. Candidates with extraordinary ability may also explore the O-1A, though it carries a higher evidentiary bar.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most developer sponsorship jobs?
Omaha accounts for the large majority of developer visa sponsorship activity in Nebraska, driven by its concentration of financial services, insurance, and logistics technology companies. Lincoln, home to the University of Nebraska and a growing startup community, is the second most active city. Smaller markets like Bellevue, which sits near Offutt Air Force Base and has a defense tech presence, occasionally surface developer openings as well.
How to find developer visa sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse developer roles in Nebraska without sifting through positions that won't support international candidates. You can narrow results by location and role type to focus on software engineering, full-stack, or backend developer openings at Nebraska employers. Migrate Mate is built for international job seekers, so every listing reflects sponsorship intent rather than requiring you to guess.
Are there any state-specific considerations for developers seeking sponsorship in Nebraska?
Nebraska's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B petitions are determined by the Department of Labor based on the Omaha or Lincoln metropolitan statistical areas, which generally reflect lower wage floors than coastal tech hubs. This can make sponsorship more financially accessible for smaller Nebraska employers. The University of Nebraska system also produces a pipeline of international graduate students in computer science who often transition to sponsored employment with local employers after completing OPT.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored developer jobs in Nebraska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
