Tips for Finding H-2B Sponsorship Jobs in Ohio
Verify your O*NET occupation code first
H-2B eligibility depends on your role meeting DOL's temporary need definition. Look up your target job title in O*NET to confirm the occupation code your employer will use on the labor certification filing before you apply.
Target Ohio employers with seasonal operating cycles
Landscaping companies in Columbus suburbs, resorts along Lake Erie, and amusement parks in Sandusky hire H-2B workers on predictable seasonal schedules. Approaching these employers in September or October puts you ahead of their January filing window.
Search verified H-2B filers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Ohio employers by H-2B DOL Labor Condition Application filing history. This shows you which specific companies have successfully sponsored workers in your occupation, so you're not cold-applying to employers unfamiliar with the process.
Confirm your employer files before the cap opens
USCIS opens H-2B cap registration on October 1 each fiscal year, and the 66,000 annual slots fill rapidly. Ask any Ohio employer you're negotiating with whether they plan to file in the first registration window to gauge their timeline commitment.
Request your employer check DOL prevailing wage early
Ohio's prevailing wages vary significantly between the Cleveland metro, rural counties, and the Cincinnati area. Your employer must submit a prevailing wage request to OFLC before filing the labor certification, so confirm they've done this step before assuming an offer is firm.
Gather country-specific documents before any offer
Consular processing requirements for H-2B visas differ by nationality. Assemble your work history records, any prior U.S. entry documents, and home-country employment references before an Ohio employer submits your petition to avoid delays after approval.

Which industries in Ohio sponsor the most H-2B visas?
Landscaping and groundskeeping, amusement and recreation, and hospitality account for the largest share of H-2B sponsorship activity in Ohio. Sandusky's amusement park corridor, seasonal golf and resort operations along Lake Erie, and commercial landscaping companies serving Columbus and Cleveland suburbs are the most consistent filers each fiscal year.
Which cities in Ohio have the most H-2B sponsorship jobs?
Sandusky sees high H-2B volume driven by its amusement park industry. Columbus and its surrounding suburbs generate strong demand from landscaping and outdoor maintenance employers. Cleveland and Cincinnati add hospitality and seasonal hospitality roles. Smaller resort towns on Lake Erie's shoreline also produce consistent H-2B filings for summer seasonal positions.
What types of roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship in Ohio?
Qualifying roles must be temporary or seasonal, non-agricultural, and tied to a genuine short-term employer need. In Ohio that commonly includes groundskeepers, ride operators, hotel housekeeping staff, food service workers at seasonal venues, and landscaping crew members. The employer must demonstrate through DOL labor certification that qualified U.S. workers are unavailable for the position.
How do I find H-2B jobs in Ohio that offer sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you filter Ohio employers by verified H-2B DOL filing history, so you can identify companies that have sponsored workers in your specific occupation rather than applying speculatively. Focus your search on seasonal industries and reach out to employers in September through November, before the USCIS cap registration period opens in October.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
