Which sports companies sponsor H-2B visas in Ohio?
Professional sports franchises, minor league teams, and venue operators are among the most active H-2B sponsors in Ohio. Organizations managing stadiums, arenas, and large recreational facilities often file H-2B petitions for seasonal operational staff. Golf courses, ski resorts in northeast Ohio, and sports camps with defined seasonal cycles are also known to use the H-2B program to fill temporary workforce gaps.
Which cities in Ohio have the most sports H-2B sponsorship jobs?
Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati concentrate the largest share of sports H-2B activity in Ohio, driven by professional teams and major venues in each city. Cleveland benefits from proximity to outdoor recreation areas along Lake Erie. Columbus has a growing sports and events industry tied to Nationwide Arena and Lower.com Field. Smaller markets like Akron and Dayton also generate seasonal sports and recreation demand.
What types of sports roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship?
H-2B covers temporary non-agricultural workers in roles that are seasonal, peak-load, or tied to a one-time event. In the sports industry, qualifying positions commonly include groundskeeping and turf maintenance staff, stadium operations workers, seasonal recreation attendants, ski patrol and lift operators, golf course maintenance crews, and event setup personnel. The employer must demonstrate the need is genuinely temporary and that U.S. workers are unavailable to fill the positions.
How do I find sports H-2B sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find sports jobs with H-2B visa sponsorship in Ohio. The platform filters specifically by visa type and industry, so you can browse confirmed H-2B openings in Ohio sports and recreation without sorting through roles that don't offer sponsorship. Search by location and role type to narrow results to Ohio-based employers actively petitioning for seasonal international workers.
Are there any Ohio-specific considerations for sports H-2B sponsorship?
Ohio's sports H-2B market follows a distinct seasonal pattern. Summer demand peaks around baseball, outdoor events, and golf, while winter creates openings at ski areas and indoor arenas. Ohio employers must file H-2B petitions well in advance of the season start, and the program operates under a national cap, so timing matters. Workers should confirm the employer has an approved temporary labor certification from the Department of Labor before accepting any offer.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B sports jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
