Which companies sponsor visas for lead software engineers in Ohio?
JPMorgan Chase, Progressive Insurance, Nationwide, and Aver are among Ohio-based employers with documented H-1B sponsorship histories for senior engineering roles. Large financial services and insurance firms in Columbus and Cleveland file LCAs for lead software engineer positions with notable regularity. Technology divisions at healthcare companies like Cardinal Health and Safelite also sponsor at this level.
Which visa types are most common for lead software engineer roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for lead software engineers in Ohio, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. L-1A and L-1B transfers are also used when an engineer is moving from an overseas office of the same company. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA.
Which cities in Ohio have the most lead software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbus accounts for the largest share of lead software engineer sponsorship activity in Ohio, driven by the concentration of financial services, insurance, and retail technology employers headquartered there. Cleveland follows, with strength in healthcare IT and manufacturing software. Cincinnati has a smaller but active market anchored by companies like Kroger's technology division and several mid-size software firms.
How to find lead software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles that offer visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to search for lead software engineer positions in Ohio without sorting through companies that won't sponsor. You can filter by state and seniority level to focus on Ohio-based openings at employers with a track record of filing H-1B petitions for engineering leadership roles.
Are there any Ohio-specific considerations for lead software engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Ohio's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B petitions are generally lower than coastal tech hubs, which can make sponsorship more accessible for mid-size employers. The state's strong university pipeline from Ohio State, Case Western Reserve, and University of Cincinnati means engineering talent is actively recruited locally, and those institutions' international alumni networks are a practical channel for finding sponsoring employers in the region.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored lead software engineer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
