Which companies sponsor visas for software design engineers in Ohio?
Companies with documented H-1B sponsorship histories for software design and engineering roles in Ohio include Nationwide Insurance, Kroger Technology, Battelle Memorial Institute, Huntington Bancshares, and NCR. Ohio-based defense and aerospace contractors such as L3Harris also file sponsorship petitions. Sponsorship availability varies by team, headcount, and hiring cycle, so confirming directly with each employer's HR or recruiting team is important.
Which visa types are most common for software design engineer roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software design engineers in Ohio, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Some employers also use the L-1B for intracompany transfers. Candidates from Canada or Mexico may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA, which does not require a lottery.
Which cities in Ohio have the most software design engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbus is Ohio's largest tech hiring hub, home to Nationwide, JPMorgan Chase's technology operations, and a growing base of software-focused companies. Cleveland has a notable presence in financial services and healthcare technology, with employers like Hyland Software and KeyBank. Cincinnati rounds out the top three, driven by Kroger Technology and several mid-size software firms concentrated in its northern suburbs.
How to find software design engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, letting you search for software design engineer roles in Ohio without sorting through employers who don't sponsor. The platform aggregates openings from Ohio-based companies with active sponsorship histories, including employers in Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. Filtering by state and role on Migrate Mate is the most direct way to identify relevant openings.
Are there any Ohio-specific considerations for software design engineers seeking sponsorship?
Ohio has several large research universities, including Ohio State and Case Western Reserve, that produce strong graduate pipelines in software and systems engineering. This means employers in Columbus and Cleveland are relatively accustomed to working with international candidates on Optional Practical Training and H-1B transitions. Prevailing wage requirements apply statewide and are determined by the Department of Labor based on the specific job location and role level.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software design engineer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
