Which companies sponsor visas for software design engineers in Kansas?
Garmin's Olathe headquarters is one of the most consistent H-1B sponsors for software engineering roles in Kansas, given its large product development operation. Oracle Health (formerly Cerner) in Kansas City has also filed extensively for software design positions. Aerospace employers in Wichita, including Spirit AeroSystems, occasionally sponsor software engineering talent as well. Sponsorship patterns vary by year and role availability.
Which visa types are most common for software design engineer roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software design engineers in Kansas, as the role typically meets the specialty occupation requirement given its degree-level technical demands. Candidates with advanced degrees may also see EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa petitions from larger employers. Canadians and Mexicans working as software design engineers may qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA treaty.
Which cities in Kansas have the most software design engineer sponsorship jobs?
The Kansas City metro area, particularly Olathe and Lenexa in Johnson County, has the highest concentration of software design engineer sponsorship activity in Kansas. Garmin alone accounts for a significant share of engineering hires in that corridor. Wichita represents a secondary hub, driven by aerospace and manufacturing technology needs. Lawrence and Manhattan see smaller volumes, often connected to university research and startup activity.
How to find software design engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search directly for software design engineer roles in Kansas without manually screening each employer. The platform surfaces positions from companies with active sponsorship history in the state, including employers in the Kansas City metro and Wichita. This saves significant time compared to broad job searches where sponsorship details are buried or absent.
Are there state-specific considerations for software design engineers seeking sponsorship in Kansas?
Kansas does not have state-level immigration programs, so all sponsorship routes follow federal processes. One practical consideration is that Johnson County's cost of living is lower than major coastal markets, which can affect prevailing wage calculations under the Labor Condition Application your employer files. Software design engineers with aerospace domain experience may find Wichita employers more receptive, given that sector's specialized hiring needs and familiarity with engineering credential evaluation.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software design engineer jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
