Which companies sponsor visas for software design engineers in South Carolina?
Several large employers in South Carolina have a documented history of sponsoring work visas for software design engineers. These include Michelin North America in Greenville, BMW Manufacturing in Spartanburg, Bosch, and Blackbaud in Charleston. Defense and aerospace contractors operating near the coast, along with growing fintech and health tech companies in Columbia, also appear regularly in sponsorship filings for software engineering roles.
Which visa types are most common for software design engineer roles in South Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software design engineers in South Carolina, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field. Some candidates, particularly those from Australia or Canada, may also be eligible for the E-3 or TN visa respectively. Employers with multinational operations, such as Michelin and Bosch, occasionally sponsor L-1 transfers for internal moves.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most software design engineer sponsorship jobs?
Greenville and Spartanburg lead the state for software design engineer sponsorship activity, driven by the dense concentration of advanced manufacturing companies with embedded software teams. Charleston has grown significantly as a tech hub, attracting software-focused employers in fintech, logistics, and defense. Columbia, home to the University of South Carolina and several state agency technology offices, also generates consistent demand for software design engineers with sponsorship.
How to find software design engineer visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship, and filters jobs by role and state so you can browse software design engineer positions in South Carolina directly. Unlike general job boards, every listing on Migrate Mate is screened for sponsorship relevance. Focusing your search on employers with active H-1B filings in the Greenville-Spartanburg corridor and Charleston tech sector will give you the most targeted results.
Are there state-specific considerations for software design engineers pursuing sponsorship in South Carolina?
South Carolina's software design engineering market is heavily tied to automotive and advanced manufacturing, meaning many roles blend mechanical systems knowledge with software development skills. This can affect how employers frame specialty occupation requirements for H-1B purposes, so your degree and job duties should clearly align with the software engineering function. The state's growing university pipeline from Clemson University and the University of South Carolina also means employers in the area are increasingly familiar with international hiring processes.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software design engineer jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
