Which companies in Iowa sponsor visas for software design engineers?
Several large Iowa employers have established sponsorship track records for software design engineers. Principal Financial Group in Des Moines, Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, John Deere in Waterloo, and Corteva Agriscience are among the most active. Mid-size technology firms and insurance-sector companies headquartered in Des Moines also file H-1B petitions regularly for software engineering roles.
What visa types are most common for software design engineers in Iowa?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software design engineers in Iowa, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. International candidates already authorized to work, such as those on OPT or STEM OPT, may also enter Iowa roles before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship through their employer.
Which Iowa cities have the most software design engineer sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines is Iowa's primary hub for sponsored software design engineer roles, driven by its concentration of financial services, insurance, and technology firms. Cedar Rapids is the second-largest market, with aerospace and manufacturing employers like Collins Aerospace filing regularly. Iowa City and Coralville benefit from proximity to the University of Iowa, attracting health-tech and research-adjacent engineering roles.
How to find software design engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to browse software design engineer roles in Iowa without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can narrow results by location to focus on Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, or other Iowa markets. Because sponsoring employers in Iowa span financial services, aerospace, and agri-tech, Migrate Mate's filtered results help surface relevant opportunities across those sectors.
Are there any Iowa-specific considerations for software design engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Iowa's cost of living relative to coastal tech hubs means prevailing wage requirements for software design engineers are generally lower in absolute terms, which can make sponsorship more accessible for mid-size employers who might hesitate in higher-cost markets. The University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and the University of Northern Iowa also generate a steady OPT pipeline that connects international graduates directly to Iowa employers familiar with visa sponsorship processes.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software design engineer jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
