Which companies sponsor visas for software design engineers in Indiana?
Companies with consistent H-1B sponsorship records for software design engineers in Indiana include Salesforce (Indianapolis), Eli Lilly, Cummins, Rolls-Royce, and Raytheon Technologies. Larger technology consultancies operating in the Indianapolis metro area also file petitions regularly. Sponsorship willingness varies by role and business unit, so reviewing a company's public LCA filings through the Department of Labor's disclosure data gives the clearest picture of actual sponsorship activity.
Which visa types are most common for software design engineer roles in Indiana?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software design engineers in Indiana, as these roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Australians may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadians and Mexicans may be eligible for TN status under the USMCA. O-1A visas are an option for engineers with demonstrable extraordinary ability.
Which cities in Indiana have the most software design engineer sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis accounts for the large majority of software design engineer sponsorship jobs in Indiana, driven by its concentration of corporate headquarters, financial services firms, and a growing tech sector. Bloomington and West Lafayette see smaller but meaningful activity, partly because Indiana University and Purdue University attract international graduates who pursue local employment. Fort Wayne and South Bend have more limited sponsorship activity but host some manufacturing-adjacent engineering employers.
How to find software design engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate filters software design engineer jobs in Indiana specifically to roles where employers have demonstrated visa sponsorship activity, saving you from sorting through listings that won't support an international hire. You can search by role and state to see current openings, then cross-reference a company's LCA filings on the Department of Labor's disclosure database to verify their sponsorship history before applying.
Are there any state-specific considerations for software design engineers pursuing sponsorship in Indiana?
Indiana's engineering hiring is closely tied to its manufacturing and life sciences industries, meaning software design engineer roles here often sit within embedded systems, CAD tooling, or medical device software teams rather than pure consumer software. Prevailing wage requirements for H-1B petitions are determined by the specific role location and job duties, so Indianapolis-based positions will reflect Department of Labor wage data for the Indianapolis metro. Purdue's strong engineering programs also mean employers in West Lafayette are familiar with OPT-to-H-1B transitions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software design engineer jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
