Search Software Design Engineer Jobs in WisconsinSoftware Design Engineer Jobs in Wisconsin: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies sponsor visas for software design engineers in Wisconsin?
Rockwell Automation in Milwaukee, Epic Systems in Verona, and Harley-Davidson have filed H-1B visa petitions for software engineering roles in Wisconsin. Mid-sized manufacturers and industrial technology firms across the Milwaukee metro and Fox Valley also sponsor periodically. Sponsorship activity tends to follow product development cycles, so hiring timelines vary by company and fiscal year.
Which visa types are most common for software design engineer roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software design engineers in Wisconsin, given the role's classification as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. International candidates already on OPT or STEM OPT often transition through H-1B sponsorship. The L-1 visa applies for intracompany transfers within multinationals with Wisconsin operations.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most software design engineer sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee and Madison account for the majority of software design engineer sponsorship activity in Wisconsin. Milwaukee anchors the industrial technology and manufacturing software sector, with employers like Rockwell Automation and Northwestern Mutual driving demand. Madison's concentration of health tech and research-driven employers, anchored by Epic Systems and the University of Wisconsin ecosystem, generates consistent engineering hiring.
How to find software design engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for visa sponsorship eligibility, so you can search software design engineer roles in Wisconsin without sifting through positions that won't support an international candidate. The platform surfaces employers who have a documented history of H-1B and other work visa sponsorship, making it more efficient than general job searches for international applicants targeting Wisconsin.
Are there any Wisconsin-specific considerations for software design engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Wisconsin's software design engineer market is heavily tied to manufacturing technology, industrial automation, and health IT, which shapes the types of roles that attract sponsorship. The University of Wisconsin-Madison produces a strong pipeline of international graduate students in computer science, and employers familiar with OPT-to-H-1B transitions are more common near that campus. Prevailing wage determinations for Wisconsin are generally lower than coastal tech hubs, which can affect employer cost calculations when filing petitions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software design engineer jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
