Responsibilities
Experience Design and Delivery
- Lead end-to-end design for mobile app experiences across discovery, booking, loyalty, personalization, and engagement, from early problem framing through production delivery

- Produce strategic experience concepts and development-ready designs with detailed specifications, interaction states, edge cases, and accessibility considerations
- Use customer research, behavioral data, analytics, experimentation, and business insights to inform design decisions and prioritize opportunities
- Use AI-enabled tools where helpful for research synthesis, ideation, prototyping, content exploration, and design iteration, while applying sound judgment, quality control, and brand standards
- Apply and contribute to Marriott’s Design System by using established patterns, components, accessibility standards, and scalable design guidelines
- Partner with Product Management and Engineering to translate requirements into feasible, scalable, user-centered solutions
- Facilitate design reviews, workshops, and cross-functional collaboration sessions that create alignment and move work forward
- Provide thoughtful design feedback, coaching, and career mentorship to other designers, with the potential to support direct people leadership responsibilities
- Support usability testing, user acceptance testing, design QA, and validation efforts to ensure a high-quality customer experience
- Present work clearly and confidently, articulating design rationale, trade-offs, and recommendations to peers, partners, and senior stakeholders
- Collaborate with Design System, Research, Analytics, Product, Engineering, QA and cross-channel UX design partners to deliver cohesive customer experiences
- Stay current with UX, mobile design, accessibility, AI-assisted design, personalization, and industry trends, applying what is relevant to improve products and experiences
YOU’RE EXACTLY WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR IF YOU:

- Influence decisions through data, customer insights, product thinking, experimentation, and strong design rationale
- Use AI tools thoughtfully to speed up exploration, synthesize inputs, and prototype ideas while maintaining high standards for accuracy, originality, ethics, and customer trust
- Bring curiosity, strong craft, good judgment, and ownership to complex customer and product problems
- Thrive in ambiguous environments and independently drive solutions forward while bringing partners along
- Balance strategic thinking with attention to details, accessibility, and execution quality
- Collaborate seamlessly with Product Management, Engineering, Research, Analytics, Content Design, QA, and Design System partners

Which companies sponsor visas for software design engineers in Maryland?
Federal contractors and defense technology firms are among the most active sponsors in Maryland. Companies such as Leidos, Northrop Grumman, Booz Allen Hamilton, SAIC, and Lockheed Martin have filed H-1B petitions for software design engineers in the state. Cybersecurity firms concentrated in the Montgomery County corridor, including Tenable and CrowdStrike, also sponsor international candidates for these roles.
Which visa types are most common for software design engineer roles in Maryland?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software design engineers in Maryland, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Candidates from Australia may use the E-3 visa. Canadian and Mexican nationals can pursue the TN visa under the software engineer category, which does not require USCIS petition approval.
Which cities in Maryland have the most software design engineer sponsorship jobs?
The highest concentration of sponsored software design engineer roles in Maryland is in the Baltimore-Washington corridor. Bethesda, Rockville, and Silver Spring in Montgomery County are particularly active, driven by federal contractor headquarters and cybersecurity firms. Baltimore city also has a growing tech presence, with companies near the Johns Hopkins and University of Maryland ecosystems sponsoring engineering talent regularly.
How to find software design engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse software design engineer roles in Maryland without sorting through positions that don't sponsor. The platform surfaces openings from federal contractors, cybersecurity companies, and tech firms across the state. Filtering by Maryland and the software design engineer role gives you a targeted view of active sponsoring employers.
Are there state-specific considerations for software design engineers seeking visa sponsorship in Maryland?
Maryland's heavy concentration of federal contractors introduces one important consideration: many roles require a U.S. security clearance, which is generally not available to non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Software design engineers seeking sponsorship should target commercial technology, cybersecurity SaaS, and biotech-adjacent firms in the state, which are more likely to sponsor international candidates without a clearance requirement. University research institutions near College Park are also worth exploring.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software design engineer jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
