Which companies sponsor visas for software engineers in Ohio?
Several large Ohio-based employers have consistent H-1B visa sponsorship histories for software engineers, including Nationwide Insurance, Huntington National Bank, JobsOhio-backed tech firms, and healthcare IT companies like Olive AI and Veeva Systems. Consulting firms with Ohio offices, such as Accenture and Cognizant, also file H-1B petitions regularly for software engineering roles across Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland.
Which visa types are most common for software engineer roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software engineers in Ohio, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a related bachelor's degree or higher. Candidates already in the U.S. on OPT or STEM OPT may also transition via H-1B sponsorship. L-1B visas apply for engineers transferring from a foreign affiliate of an Ohio-based multinational employer.
Which cities in Ohio have the most software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbus leads Ohio for software engineer sponsorship activity, driven by a dense concentration of insurance, fintech, and retail tech employers alongside Ohio State University's graduate talent pipeline. Cincinnati follows, with strength in consumer goods technology and enterprise software. Cleveland's healthcare IT sector, anchored by the Cleveland Clinic and related vendors, generates steady demand for sponsored software engineering roles.
How to find software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters software engineer roles in Ohio by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from sorting through listings that won't support work authorization. You can browse active openings from Ohio employers with documented sponsorship histories, helping you focus your applications on companies that have already demonstrated a willingness to hire internationally.
Are there any Ohio-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for software engineers?
Ohio's lower cost of living compared to coastal tech hubs means prevailing wage requirements for software engineers are generally set at lower absolute levels, which can make sponsorship more financially accessible for mid-sized Ohio employers who might otherwise avoid it. The state's strong university pipeline from Ohio State, Case Western Reserve, and University of Cincinnati also means employers are accustomed to hiring international candidates who need visa support.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software engineer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
