Which companies in Idaho sponsor visas for software engineers?
Micron Technology is Idaho's largest tech employer and a consistent H-1B visa sponsor, regularly hiring software engineers across its Boise headquarters. Clearwater Analytics, HP Inc., and Bodybuilding.com (now part of Liberty Media) have also filed for software engineer sponsorships. Smaller fintech and SaaS companies in Boise's growing tech scene sponsor less frequently, so targeting established mid-to-large employers improves your chances.
What visa types are most common for software engineers sponsored in Idaho?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa for software engineers in Idaho, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Some engineers transition from F-1 OPT or STEM OPT. The O-1A applies for engineers with demonstrated extraordinary ability, though it's far less common and requires substantial supporting evidence.
Which cities in Idaho have the most software engineer visa sponsorship jobs?
Boise accounts for the overwhelming majority of software engineer sponsorship activity in Idaho. It's home to Micron's headquarters, Clearwater Analytics, and a cluster of fintech startups. Nampa and Meridian, as Boise suburbs, host some engineering roles tied to larger employers. Outside the Treasure Valley, sponsorship opportunities are rare, and most candidates relocate to the Boise metro area.
How to find software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Idaho?
Migrate Mate filters software engineer jobs specifically by visa sponsorship, making it straightforward to identify Idaho-based openings from employers already willing to sponsor. Because Idaho's tech market is smaller than Seattle or San Francisco, new postings can fill quickly. Checking Migrate Mate regularly and setting up role-specific alerts for Idaho software engineer positions gives you the best chance of catching relevant openings early.
Are there any Idaho-specific factors software engineers should know about visa sponsorship?
Idaho follows federal prevailing wage rules, so employers sponsoring H-1B software engineers must meet Department of Labor wage levels for the Boise metro or the specific county where work is performed. Micron's semiconductor focus means some roles overlap electrical engineering and software, which can affect how job duties are classified for specialty occupation purposes. Idaho State University and Boise State University also produce graduates who compete for the same sponsored roles.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software engineer jobs in Idaho?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
