About Bridgewater
Bridgewater Associates is a premier asset management firm, focused on delivering unique insight and partnership for the most sophisticated global institutional investors. Our investment process is driven by a tireless pursuit to understand how the world’s markets and economies work — using cutting edge technology to validate and execute on timeless and universal investment principles.
Founded in 1975, we are a community of independent thinkers who share a commitment for excellence. By fostering a culture of openness, transparency, and inclusion, we strive to unlock the most complex questions in investment strategy, management, and corporate culture.
Our Culture
Our culture is anchored in excellence, meaning constant improvement, and it is deeply tied to our mission. Because markets are objective, competitive, and getting smarter everyday, we need to keep rapidly improving to have any chance of beating them. Truth is our most essential tool for engaging with the markets and constantly improving because once you know what's true about your problems and opportunities, you can determine how to get better. Valuing truth means being transparent about your decision-making and mistakes, giving and receiving feedback with humility, and fighting for the best answers over hierarchy, ego, or self-interest. Operating this way is hard – it's only possible because we build meaning in our work and relationships. This meaning comes from the audacity of the mission, and the joy of working alongside people who make you a better version of yourself. The culture, like Bridgewater itself, is always evolving. In 1997 our founder Ray Dalio wrote down his lessons, starting with a Philosophy Statement which remains our foundation. This later evolved into a set of 300+ Principles. In 2022, when Ray transitioned the company, we re-underwrote several of those principles and evolved others, with a specific focus on Meritocracy. Today the culture sits, alongside our people, as our most important edge. When we get it right, it’s the engine that powers everything else.

Which companies sponsor visas for software engineers in Connecticut?
Financial services and insurance firms are among the most active sponsors in Connecticut. Synchrony Financial, Cigna, and Travelers have consistent H-1B visa filing histories for software engineering roles. Defense and aerospace contractors like Raytheon Technologies and Pratt & Whitney also sponsor engineers in the state. Larger technology consultancies, including Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services, maintain a visible sponsorship presence across Connecticut offices.
Which visa types are most common for software engineer roles in Connecticut?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software engineers in Connecticut, given that the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. OPT and STEM OPT are frequently used by recent graduates from nearby universities before H-1B sponsorship. L-1B visas appear for engineers transferring from international offices of Connecticut-based multinationals.
Which cities in Connecticut have the most software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Stamford sees the highest concentration of software engineer sponsorship activity, driven by its financial services sector and proximity to New York City. Hartford follows closely, anchored by major insurance companies and state government technology initiatives. New Haven attracts engineering talent through Yale University's research partnerships and a growing biotech and health-tech cluster. Bridgeport and Greenwich also have employer presence, particularly within finance and professional services.
How to find software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Connecticut?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse software engineer roles in Connecticut without sorting through positions that don't support international candidates. You can search by location and role to surface opportunities from Connecticut-based employers in finance, insurance, defense, and technology. Migrate Mate also provides context on which employers have active sponsorship histories for software engineering positions.
Are there state-specific factors software engineers should know about sponsorship in Connecticut?
Connecticut's H-1B prevailing wage requirements apply at the state level, and employers must meet Department of Labor wage standards specific to the Hartford and Stamford metro areas, which reflect distinct local wage norms. The state's concentration of regulated industries like insurance and defense means many employers have established immigration compliance programs and legal teams experienced with sponsorship. Engineers with computer science degrees from Yale, UConn, or Wesleyan also benefit from established recruiting pipelines into these sponsoring employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software engineer jobs in Connecticut?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
