Which companies in Rhode Island sponsor visas for software engineers?
Established Rhode Island employers with a history of H-1B sponsorship for software engineers include Amica Mutual Insurance, Textron, Infosys, and CVS Health (which has significant operations in the state). Defense contractors and healthcare IT firms in the Providence metro area also sponsor regularly. Reviewing Department of Labor LCA disclosure data is the most reliable way to verify which specific employers have filed recently.
Which visa types are most common for software engineer roles in Rhode Island?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa for software engineers in Rhode Island. Software engineering typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, which satisfies the core H-1B eligibility requirement. Some candidates working for multinational firms may also pursue L-1B intracompany transfers, and nationals of Australia, Canada, or Mexico may have access to the E-3 visa or TN visa categories respectively.
Which cities in Rhode Island have the most software engineer visa sponsorship jobs?
Providence is Rhode Island's primary hub for software engineer sponsorship activity, concentrating most of the state's corporate headquarters, financial institutions, and healthcare organizations. Warwick and Cranston see activity tied to defense and insurance sector employers. The concentration of universities, including Brown University and the University of Rhode Island, feeds a consistent pipeline of talent and employer hiring activity into the greater Providence area.
How to find software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Rhode Island?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by role and state to surface software engineer positions in Rhode Island where employers have indicated visa sponsorship availability. Because Migrate Mate focuses on sponsorship-confirmed roles, it removes the guesswork of cold-applying to employers who won't sponsor. Checking listings regularly is worthwhile, as Rhode Island's market is smaller than nearby Boston or New York and new roles appear with less frequency.
Are there any Rhode Island-specific considerations for software engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Rhode Island's tech market is smaller than neighboring Massachusetts, which means fewer total sponsoring employers but also less competition for roles that do open. Brown University and the University of Rhode Island generate employer relationships that can benefit recent graduates on OPT seeking H-1B sponsorship. Employers must pay the prevailing wage for the specific role and location as determined by Department of Labor wage data, which reflects Rhode Island's regional cost structure rather than national averages.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software engineer jobs in Rhode Island?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
