Which companies sponsor visas for staff software engineers in Ohio?
Financial services and insurance companies dominate Ohio's staff software engineer sponsorship activity. JPMorgan Chase in Columbus, Progressive Insurance in Mayfield Village, and Nationwide also in Columbus are among the most active. Healthcare technology firms like Olive AI and large retailers such as Kroger (headquartered in Cincinnati) also file H-1B visa petitions for senior engineering roles on a recurring basis.
Which visa types are most common for staff software engineer roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa for staff software engineers in Ohio. Software engineering at the staff level consistently meets the specialty occupation requirement, given the degree-specific technical demands of the role. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may also qualify under the TN visa category. Those with extraordinary ability or significant recognition in their field may explore the O-1A as an alternative pathway.
Which cities in Ohio have the most staff software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbus is Ohio's primary hub for staff software engineer sponsorship, driven by its dense concentration of financial services, insurance, and retail technology employers. Cleveland follows, with a notable presence in healthcare IT and manufacturing technology firms. Cincinnati rounds out the top three, anchored by consumer goods and retail tech companies. All three cities have active H-1B filing histories for senior engineering titles.
How to find staff software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship. You can filter directly by state and role to surface staff software engineer openings in Ohio where employers have indicated sponsorship availability. This saves time compared to manually screening postings, since sponsorship willingness is already a filter criterion rather than something you have to research separately for each employer.
Are there any state-specific factors to know about staff software engineer sponsorship in Ohio?
Ohio's lower cost of living compared to coastal tech hubs means prevailing wage benchmarks for staff software engineer roles are set accordingly by the Department of Labor, which can affect the total compensation structure employers offer sponsored candidates. Ohio State University and Case Western Reserve University produce a steady pipeline of engineering graduates, which means employers in Columbus and Cleveland are generally familiar with sponsorship processes for international talent at senior levels.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored staff software engineer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
