Which school districts in Oregon sponsor visas for K-12 education roles?
Portland Public Schools, Salem-Keizer School District, and Beaverton School District are among the larger Oregon districts that have sponsored work visas for qualified international educators. Districts facing persistent teacher shortages in special education, bilingual instruction, and STEM subjects are generally more open to sponsorship. Smaller rural districts occasionally sponsor as well, particularly when filling hard-to-staff positions.
Which visa types are most common for K-12 education roles in Oregon?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for K-12 teachers in Oregon, as licensed teaching positions at accredited public and private schools generally qualify as specialty occupations requiring a relevant bachelor's degree. The J-1 visa is another route, used through cultural exchange programs that place international teachers in U.S. classrooms, typically for two to three years. Some candidates also explore TN status if they hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship.
Which cities in Oregon have the most K-12 education visa sponsorship jobs?
Portland is the primary hub, home to Oregon's largest school district and the greatest concentration of K-12 sponsorship opportunities. Salem and Beaverton follow, with large district enrollments and documented international hiring. Eugene, anchored by the University of Oregon's teacher pipeline, also generates demand. Medford and Bend have seen growth in bilingual education hiring as their student populations have diversified in recent years.
How to find k 12 education visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find K-12 education visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon, with listings filtered specifically for roles where employers are open to sponsoring international candidates. Searching by role type, such as bilingual teacher or special education specialist, and filtering to Oregon helps narrow results quickly. Migrate Mate's board focuses exclusively on visa sponsorship roles, removing the guesswork of identifying which postings are open to international applicants.
Are there any Oregon-specific considerations for international K-12 educators seeking visa sponsorship?
Oregon requires all K-12 teachers to hold a valid Oregon Teaching License issued by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission, regardless of visa status. International candidates must have their foreign credentials evaluated for equivalency before licensure. Oregon also participates in federal Title I funding programs, and districts receiving this funding often have more hiring flexibility for shortage subject areas, which can work in favor of internationally trained educators applying in those categories.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored k 12 education jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
