Which companies sponsor visas for pharmacists in Oregon?
Oregon's largest pharmacy employers with documented H-1B sponsorship histories include Providence Health and Services, Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), Legacy Health, PeaceHealth, and Walgreens. Hospital systems and integrated health networks tend to sponsor more consistently than independent retail pharmacies, as they have established immigration counsel and recurring international hiring needs. Checking USCIS H-1B disclosure data for each employer by name gives the most accurate sponsorship history.
Which visa types are most common for pharmacist roles in Oregon?
The H-1B visa is by far the most common pathway for foreign-trained pharmacists in Oregon. Pharmacy qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, meeting H-1B eligibility standards. Some international pharmacists also enter through the J-1 exchange visitor program via postgraduate residency or fellowship positions, particularly at academic medical centers like OHSU. TN visa holders from Canada and Mexico can also work as pharmacists under USMCA.
Which cities in Oregon have the most pharmacist sponsorship jobs?
Portland is Oregon's primary market for pharmacist sponsorship jobs, driven by the concentration of large health systems including OHSU, Providence, and Legacy Health. Salem, as the state capital, has hospital and government-affiliated pharmacy positions. Eugene supports pharmacy hiring through PeaceHealth and the University of Oregon health system. Medford and Bend have smaller but growing healthcare markets with occasional sponsorship openings at regional medical centers.
How to find pharmacist visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship roles in the U.S. You can filter pharmacist jobs by Oregon to see positions from employers with active sponsorship histories. Because Oregon's sponsorship activity is concentrated among health systems rather than retail chains, focusing your search on hospital and integrated health network listings on Migrate Mate will generally produce the most relevant results for licensed pharmacists.
Are there state-specific considerations for international pharmacists seeking sponsorship in Oregon?
International pharmacists must obtain Oregon Board of Pharmacy licensure before practicing, which requires passing the NAPLEX and MPJE exams, verifying foreign pharmacy credentials through a recognized evaluation service, and meeting English proficiency requirements. The Oregon Board does not issue a license solely on the basis of a visa petition, so candidates should begin the licensure process well in advance. Employers will typically require Oregon licensure or eligibility as a condition of any offer.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored pharmacist jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
