Which companies sponsor visas for technicians in Oregon?
Intel is the largest sponsor of technician visas in Oregon, particularly for semiconductor process and equipment technician roles at its Hillsboro campus. Other active sponsors include Nike, Daimler Trucks North America, and Oregon Health and Science University. Smaller advanced manufacturing and medical device firms in the Portland metro area also file sponsorship petitions for specialized technician positions.
Which visa types are most common for technician roles in Oregon?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for technicians whose roles require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field, such as electrical or biomedical engineering technology. Technician positions that don't meet specialty occupation requirements may not qualify for H-1B. Some employers also use TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technician classifications under the USMCA.
Which cities in Oregon have the most technician sponsorship jobs?
Hillsboro leads Oregon for technician sponsorship volume, driven almost entirely by Intel's semiconductor fabrication facilities. Portland follows, with opportunities spread across healthcare systems, clean energy companies, and advanced manufacturing. Corvallis has a smaller but active market tied to Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Oregon State University's research operations. Bend is emerging as a secondary hub in central Oregon for technical roles in outdoor tech and manufacturing.
How to find technician visa sponsorship jobs in Oregon?
Migrate Mate filters technician jobs in Oregon specifically by visa sponsorship availability, saving you from sorting through listings that won't support work authorization. You can search by city, filter by industry sector, and review which employers have a documented history of filing sponsorship petitions for technician roles. This is particularly useful for narrowing your search to Hillsboro's semiconductor employers or Portland's healthcare and clean energy hiring pipelines.
Are there any Oregon-specific considerations for technicians seeking visa sponsorship?
Oregon's semiconductor industry, anchored by Intel in Washington County, creates a concentrated demand for technicians that influences prevailing wage determinations for the region. Roles in Hillsboro are often benchmarked to higher wage levels than rural Oregon positions. Oregon State University and Portland State University also produce technical graduates who sometimes transition from OPT to employer-sponsored status, so employers in university-adjacent corridors are generally familiar with the sponsorship process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technician jobs in Oregon?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
