Which companies sponsor visas for technicians in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's largest visa sponsors for technician roles include Oshkosh Corporation, Rockwell Automation, WEC Energy Group, Exact Sciences, and GE Healthcare. Manufacturing and medical device companies dominate sponsorship activity in this state. These employers regularly file Labor Condition Applications for skilled technicians in areas like electronics, industrial controls, and laboratory operations, particularly at facilities in Milwaukee, Madison, and the Fox Valley region.
Which visa types are most common for technician roles in Wisconsin?
The H-1B visa is the most common pathway for international technicians in Wisconsin, but it requires the role to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning a bachelor's degree in a specific technical field is generally required. Technicians with hands-on trade qualifications rather than a degree may find the H-1B harder to obtain. The TN visa applies to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical roles listed under USMCA.
Which cities in Wisconsin have the most technician sponsorship jobs?
Milwaukee leads Wisconsin for technician sponsorship opportunities, driven by its concentration of manufacturing, energy, and healthcare employers. Madison follows closely, with demand from university-affiliated research facilities, medical device firms, and biotechnology companies. Oshkosh and Green Bay also generate consistent technician openings through industrial manufacturing and food processing operations. The Fox Valley corridor connecting Appleton and Oshkosh is particularly active for industrial and maintenance technician roles.
How to find technician visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin?
Migrate Mate is the most targeted resource for international technicians searching for visa sponsorship jobs in Wisconsin. The platform filters specifically for employers who sponsor work visas, so you can focus on roles at manufacturers, healthcare systems, and energy companies actively hiring sponsored candidates. Filtering by Wisconsin and the technician category on Migrate Mate surfaces opportunities you won't easily identify through general job searches.
Are there any state-specific considerations for technician visa sponsorship in Wisconsin?
Wisconsin's strong manufacturing base means many technician roles involve union or trade environments where degree requirements can be ambiguous, which affects H-1B specialty occupation eligibility. Employers must pay the Department of Labor prevailing wage for the specific technician role and county of employment, and Wisconsin's prevailing wages vary meaningfully between metropolitan areas like Milwaukee and smaller rural counties. University of Wisconsin system campuses also generate demand for lab and research technician roles with sponsorship history.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technician jobs in Wisconsin?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
