Summary:
Performs whole blood collection and apheresis procedures according to established regulatory requirements. Coordinates and implements procedures involved in evaluation, collection, processing of products and care of donors/patients. Drives to and hosts mobile blood drives to qualify and collect blood from donors in and outside the community.
Responsibilities:
- Qualifies donors according to established regulatory and laboratory guidelines through questionnaire review and clarification as well as evaluation of vitals.
- Performs waived and moderate complexity testing in order to ensure the pre-donation safety of donors.
- Executes whole blood collections and apheresis procurement of platelets, plasma, and red blood cells in accordance with AABB and FDA guidelines.
- Processes, labels, stores, and ships blood components in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
- Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Completed phlebotomy training program through a health careers program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.
