Which companies sponsor visas for architects in Pennsylvania?
Large architecture and engineering firms with Pennsylvania offices are the most consistent sponsors, including Gensler, HOK, Stantec, and AECOM. Healthcare-focused firms working with major hospital systems like Penn Medicine and UPMC also hire internationally. Smaller boutique studios occasionally sponsor but do so less predictably. Firms with federal or institutional project portfolios tend to have more established immigration processes.
Which visa types are most common for architect roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is the most common visa for architects in Pennsylvania, since architecture qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a professional degree. Some candidates from Australia use the E-3 visa, and Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under the TN visa category. Architects with extraordinary ability or significant national recognition sometimes pursue the O-1A. Each pathway has different employer filing requirements.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most architect visa sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia accounts for the largest share of architecture sponsorship activity in Pennsylvania, driven by its dense concentration of design firms, university campuses, and ongoing civic and healthcare construction. Pittsburgh is a strong second, with growth in technology-sector office development and major hospital expansions. Smaller markets like Harrisburg and Allentown have activity but fewer firms with established international hiring pipelines.
How to find architect visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters architecture roles specifically by visa sponsorship availability and state, making it straightforward to find Pennsylvania-based positions without sifting through listings that don't support international candidates. Search for architect roles in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate to see current openings from firms actively willing to sponsor. Narrowing by city like Philadelphia or Pittsburgh helps identify where hiring is most concentrated.
Are there any state-specific considerations for architects seeking visa sponsorship in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania requires architects to hold a valid license from the State Architects Licensure Board to practice independently, though many sponsored roles are for unlicensed designers working under a licensed architect while completing ARE requirements. Philadelphia's historic preservation sector creates demand for architects with specialized heritage experience. Pennsylvania's large higher-education and healthcare construction pipeline also means firms here frequently need candidates with institutional project backgrounds.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architect jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
