About the Role: Our data team is organized across three groups: Data Engineering, Data Science, and Strategic Analytics. Data Science owns the modeling work that drives Perpay's most consequential decisions: credit decisioning, loss forecasting, marketing-mix attribution, product experimentation, and the ML systems that sit in front of our customers in real time. As a Data Science intern, your main responsibility is to learn, but you'll learn it by doing real work. During the summer of 2027, you'll leverage our expansive data sets to research, identify, and build features to train models and drive real impact. Applying your knowledge of modeling, statistical methodologies, and exploratory data analysis, you'll partner with stakeholders across Engineering, Risk, Marketing, Merchandising, and Finance and communicate solutions designed to drive company growth, getting hands-on with our stack, which includes Python (scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy, statsmodels), SQL, and Redshift. Our greatest strength is our people and we’d love for you to be one of them!
What To Expect From The Internship
Within your first week, you'll:
- Introduce yourself on Slack and meet your team.
- Get oriented in our data sets, walk through existing models and analyses with the rest of the team, and read enough of the codebase to start asking useful questions.
Within your first month, you'll:
- Get fluent enough in our data sets and modeling tools to explore and build independently.
- Scope your first real project with a mentor, including the modeling or statistical approach and the trade-offs involved.
- Ship your first contribution. It could be a feature, an analysis, or a small improvement to an existing model.
By the end of your internship, you'll:
- Have shipped a model, feature, or analysis that the team relies on after you're gone.
- Have presented your work to the broader team, and walked away with a real sense of what production data science looks like day to day.
- Have met with various business owners across the company to build your network and get a feel for how a data team fits into a fast-paced startup.
What You’ll Bring:
- Currently enrolled in or will receive a Master's in Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or an equivalent technical discipline with an expected graduation date between winter 2027 – summer 2028, or equivalent relevant experience.

Which companies sponsor visas for data science managers in Pennsylvania?
Philadelphia-based Comcast, Vanguard, and Independence Blue Cross are active H-1B sponsors for data science leadership roles. In Pittsburgh, UPMC, PNC Financial, and Carnegie Mellon University-affiliated research organizations regularly file petitions for senior data positions. Defense contractors like Lockheed Martin, with a presence across Pennsylvania, also sponsor data science managers with advanced degrees.
Which visa types are most common for data science manager roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is the most common visa for data science managers in Pennsylvania, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as computer science, statistics, or applied mathematics. Candidates with outstanding research profiles or publications may also be considered for O-1A classification. Some academic and research institutions additionally support J-1 visa sponsorship.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most data science manager sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia and Pittsburgh generate the majority of data science manager sponsorship opportunities in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia draws sponsorship activity from finance, insurance, healthcare, and telecom employers. Pittsburgh's strength comes from its AI and machine learning research community, anchored by Carnegie Mellon University and a growing cluster of tech companies that have established engineering offices there. Smaller markets like Malvern and Wayne, in the Philadelphia suburbs, also see activity from financial services firms.
How to find data science manager visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search data science manager roles in Pennsylvania without sorting through positions that don't sponsor. The platform surfaces employers in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and surrounding markets that have a documented history of H-1B filings for data science leadership roles, helping you focus your applications on companies already familiar with the sponsorship process.
Are there state-specific considerations for data science managers pursuing sponsorship in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania's concentration of research universities, particularly Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pennsylvania, creates a strong local talent pipeline that employers tap for data science leadership. This also means sponsors here often expect advanced degrees or demonstrated research credentials. For H-1B petitions, employers must pay the prevailing wage for a data science manager in the specific Pennsylvania metropolitan area, which is determined by Department of Labor wage surveys and varies between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data science manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
