About the Role
We are looking for an AI Architect with deep hands-on expertise in building and modernizing enterprise-grade GenAI/RAG platforms on the Microsoft Azure ecosystem. The role involves architecting agentic AI solutions and evolving LLM orchestration layers on modern agent frameworks, working with containerized, production-scale environments.
Must-Have Skills
- Semantic Kernel + Microsoft Agent Framework — hands-on experience refactoring SK plugins, planners, function calling, and memory to Agent Framework agents/workflows (this is the critical, hardest-to-source skill)
- Python / Django — to rebuild the orchestration layer without breaking existing API contracts, RBAC, and permissions

High-Priority Skills
- Model Context Protocol (MCP) — for tool/connector integration and the Intelligence Layer channel
- OpenShift / containerization — to deploy migrated microservices on OCP
- Observability & Evaluation — Arize Phoenix + OpenTelemetry instrumentation, agent/agentic-system registration, and RAG quality/eval validation to confirm parity

Which companies sponsor visas for senior AI software engineers in Pennsylvania?
Several large employers in Pennsylvania have consistent track records of sponsoring H-1B visas for senior AI software engineers. These include Comcast in Philadelphia, SAP America in Newtown Square, and consulting and defense firms such as Booz Allen Hamilton and Leidos. Pittsburgh-based technology operations tied to Carnegie Mellon's research partnerships, along with healthcare systems like UPMC, also appear regularly in federal Labor Condition Application filings for AI and machine learning roles.
Which visa types are most common for senior AI software engineer roles in Pennsylvania?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for senior AI software engineers in Pennsylvania, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, AI, or a related field. Candidates with extraordinary ability in AI research may qualify for the O-1A. Those already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT can work while an employer files an H-1B petition on their behalf.
Which cities in Pennsylvania have the most senior AI software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Philadelphia and Pittsburgh account for the majority of senior AI software engineer sponsorship activity in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia draws demand from enterprise technology, financial services, and healthcare IT employers. Pittsburgh benefits from proximity to Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, which anchor a dense concentration of AI research labs, robotics companies, and autonomous systems startups. Smaller clusters exist in the Lehigh Valley corridor and around State College, home to Penn State.
How to find senior ai software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Pennsylvania?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify Pennsylvania employers actively hiring senior AI software engineers who need work authorization. Rather than sorting through general job postings, you can search directly for roles where sponsorship is confirmed. Migrate Mate is particularly useful for narrowing results to the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh metros, where most Pennsylvania sponsorship activity for this role is concentrated.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for senior AI software engineers in Pennsylvania?
Pennsylvania's strong university pipeline, particularly from Carnegie Mellon, Penn, and Penn State, means employers in the state are experienced with international talent and H-1B sponsorship processes. The Department of Labor's prevailing wage determinations for senior AI software engineers in Pennsylvania reflect the seniority level of the role, and employers must certify they are meeting those wage thresholds when filing a Labor Condition Application. Pittsburgh's AI research density also means some positions fall under cap-exempt institutions, such as universities and affiliated nonprofits.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior ai software engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
