Which companies sponsor visas for operations interns in Puerto Rico?
Pharmaceutical manufacturers with large Puerto Rico footprints, including Johnson & Johnson, AbbVie, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Amgen, have established intern programs that sometimes include visa support. Financial institutions like Banco Popular and FirstBancorp also hire operations interns. Sponsorship availability varies by program cycle and is never guaranteed, so confirming directly with each employer's HR team is important.
Which visa types are most common for operations intern roles in Puerto Rico?
Most international operations interns in Puerto Rico work under F-1 Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or post-graduation Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allow work authorization without employer-sponsored petitions. For longer-term conversion after an internship, some employers pursue H-1B visa sponsorship, though operations roles must qualify as specialty occupations. J-1 visa intern and trainee visas are also used by structured exchange programs placing interns at Puerto Rico facilities.
How to find operations intern visa sponsorship jobs in Puerto Rico?
Migrate Mate filters operations intern roles specifically by visa sponsorship status and location, making it straightforward to identify Puerto Rico-based positions where employers have indicated willingness to support international candidates. Because sponsorship for intern roles can be informal or program-specific, browsing Migrate Mate alongside direct outreach to recruiting teams at pharmaceutical and logistics companies in San Juan tends to be the most effective approach.
Which cities in Puerto Rico have the most operations intern sponsorship jobs?
San Juan and its metro area, including Guaynabo and Bayamon, account for the large majority of operations intern opportunities given the concentration of corporate headquarters, shared service centers, and pharmaceutical distribution facilities there. Manati and Barceloneta also see operations intern activity tied to biopharma manufacturing campuses. Smaller municipalities have limited intern hiring outside of local government or utilities.
Are there state-specific or role-specific considerations for operations interns in Puerto Rico?
Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, so federal immigration rules apply in full, including OPT and CPT authorization for F-1 students. The island's economy is heavily shaped by pharmaceutical and medtech manufacturing, meaning operations internships frequently sit within supply chain, quality assurance, or production planning functions. University of Puerto Rico campuses in Rio Piedras and Mayaguez serve as active pipelines into these programs, and some employers coordinate directly with those institutions for intern placements.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored operations intern jobs in Puerto Rico?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
