Which companies sponsor visas for controls technicians in South Carolina?
South Carolina's advanced manufacturing base includes companies with established visa sponsorship activity in technical roles. BMW Manufacturing in Spartanburg, Michelin North America, Bosch, and Hubbell Power Systems have all appeared in Department of Labor LCA disclosure data for controls and automation-related positions. Tier-1 automotive suppliers operating near the Upstate corridor are also worth researching, as they frequently hire for PLC and SCADA-related technician roles.
Which visa types are most common for controls technician roles in South Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common employer-sponsored visa for controls technician roles, though it requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, typically meaning a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or a closely related field is a standard requirement. The TN visa is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering categories. The E-3 applies to Australian citizens in specialty occupations meeting similar degree requirements.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most controls technician sponsorship jobs?
Greenville and Spartanburg account for the largest share of controls technician openings in South Carolina, driven by the Upstate's dense concentration of automotive and industrial manufacturers. Charleston is a secondary market with growing aerospace and logistics automation activity, including facilities tied to Volvo's North American manufacturing presence. Columbia sees occasional demand from utilities and defense-adjacent contractors operating in the area.
How to find controls technician visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify controls technician positions in South Carolina without sorting through postings that don't support international candidates. The platform focuses on the Upstate manufacturing corridor and other active hiring regions in the state, so you can search by role type and location to find employers actively recruiting for controls and automation talent.
Are there any state-specific considerations for controls technicians seeking sponsorship in South Carolina?
South Carolina's heavy reliance on foreign direct investment, particularly from German and European automotive manufacturers, means many employers here already have internal processes for international hires. Prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B still apply regardless of employer size or location, and the wage level assigned to your position will reflect the Greenville-Spartanburg or Charleston metropolitan area rates as determined by Department of Labor data at the time of LCA filing.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored controls technician jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
