Which technology companies sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas in South Carolina?
South Carolina's manufacturing-heavy economy means many STEM OPT technology sponsors are embedded in large industrial operations. Michelin North America, BMW Manufacturing, and Bosch sponsor engineering and software roles from their Upstate SC facilities. In Columbia and Charleston, technology services firms, healthcare IT companies, and defense contractors have filed Labor Condition Applications for positions. OFLC disclosure data lets you verify which specific employers have active sponsorship history by occupation and location.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most technology F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Greenville and Spartanburg together form the most active corridor for technology sponsorship, driven by multinational manufacturers and their supplier networks. Columbia supports technology hiring through state government IT, healthcare systems, and the University of South Carolina's research partnerships. Charleston has seen growth in aerospace technology with Boeing's presence, along with cybersecurity and financial technology firms expanding in the region. Each city draws on a distinct industry base, so the types of qualifying roles differ meaningfully across them.

O*NET occupation profiles can help confirm whether a specific job title carries the required STEM designation before you apply.
Are there state-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in South Carolina's technology sector?
South Carolina's technology employer base is more manufacturing-integrated than states with standalone software clusters, meaning many STEM OPT roles sit within engineering and operations departments rather than pure software companies. Employers participating in E-Verify are required sponsors under STEM OPT rules, and South Carolina has a state law requiring E-Verify participation for employers with state contracts, which increases compliance rates among larger technology contractors. Your DSO must authorize the STEM OPT extension through SEVIS before your work authorization begins.
