Which companies sponsor visas for product software engineers in South Carolina?
Blackbaud, headquartered in Charleston, is one of South Carolina's most active tech employers for sponsored product software engineer roles. Benefitfocus, also based in Charleston, and Automated Trading Desk in Mount Pleasant have documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories. Larger employers with South Carolina offices, including Michelin's technology division in Greenville and SCANA's successor Dominion Energy, also sponsor engineering roles periodically.
Which visa types are most common for product software engineer roles in South Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for product software engineers in South Carolina, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Some candidates already holding OPT or STEM OPT authorization from South Carolina universities also enter product engineering roles before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
Which cities in South Carolina have the most product software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Charleston is South Carolina's primary tech hub and generates the highest concentration of product software engineer sponsorship activity, driven by Blackbaud, Benefitfocus, and a cluster of fintech startups. Columbia, the state capital, is the second most active market, supported by state government IT contracts and the University of South Carolina's engineering pipeline. Greenville and Fort Mill see activity from manufacturing-adjacent software teams.
How to find product software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in South Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters product software engineer jobs specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search South Carolina openings without manually checking each employer's policy. The platform focuses on roles where employers have indicated willingness to sponsor, which is particularly useful in a mid-sized market like South Carolina where sponsoring employers are fewer and more concentrated in Charleston and Columbia.
Are there any South Carolina-specific considerations for product software engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
South Carolina's tech sector is smaller than neighboring North Carolina, so the pool of sponsors is narrower. Employers filing H-1B petitions must pay prevailing wages determined by the Department of Labor for the specific metro area, and wage levels in Charleston and Columbia differ from major metros. Candidates with University of South Carolina or Clemson University connections may find alumni networks helpful in identifying product engineering teams open to sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored product software engineer jobs in South Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
