Which companies sponsor visas for IT support roles in South Dakota?
Sioux Falls-based employers are the most active sponsors for IT support in South Dakota. Citibank and Wells Fargo have substantial technology operations in the city and have historically filed H-1B petitions for support and infrastructure roles. Sanford Health and Avera Health sponsor for IT positions supporting their hospital networks. State government contractors working on infrastructure projects also occasionally sponsor qualified candidates.
Which visa types are most common for IT support roles in South Dakota?
The H-1B is the most common visa for IT support roles in South Dakota, though it requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning a bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field is typically required. The TN visa is available for Canadian and Mexican citizens in eligible computer-related occupations. International students completing degrees at South Dakota State University or the University of South Dakota may also work under OPT or STEM OPT before transitioning to employer-sponsored status.
Which cities in South Dakota have the most IT support sponsorship jobs?
Sioux Falls is by far the leading city for IT support sponsorship in South Dakota, driven by its financial services sector, healthcare systems, and a growing technology services presence. Rapid City is the next most active market, with IT support roles tied to regional healthcare, federal contractors, and tourism-related businesses. Pierre, as the state capital, has IT support demand within state government agencies, though sponsorship activity there is more limited.
How to find it support visa sponsorship jobs in South Dakota?

Are there state-specific considerations for IT support visa sponsorship in South Dakota?
South Dakota has no state income tax, which affects how employers calculate total compensation packages but does not change federal H-1B prevailing wage obligations. Employers must still meet Department of Labor wage requirements for the relevant metropolitan or rural wage area, with Sioux Falls and Rapid City each having their own prevailing wage determinations. The state's relatively small tech market means fewer sponsoring employers overall, so candidates often benefit from targeting larger healthcare and financial services organizations with established immigration programs.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored it support jobs in South Dakota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
