DESCRIPTION
Amazon's Integrated Design Solutions (IDS) team is looking for Architectural Designer I to join a fast-paced, high-impact team delivering the composite designs that power Amazon's fulfillment network. This is a hands-on role for someone who is sharp, detail-oriented, and ready to produce accurate 2D/3D design work in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
You'll work closely with experienced design and program management partners, contributing directly to composite delivery across a diverse portfolio of building types. If you're technically strong, a quick learner, and energized by work that has real operational impact — this is a great place to grow.
Key job responsibilities
- Produce accurate 2D/3D composite designs using AutoCAD and Revit in support of fulfillment network projects
- Incorporate vendor-provided MHE designs and module placements into BIM models per established standards
- Support clash detection and under-the-roof design validation to ensure composite accuracy before construction
- Maintain organized, audit-ready files in Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) following team data governance standards
- Collaborate with design and program management partners to meet project milestones and delivery timelines
- Flag design issues or discrepancies early and communicate clearly with the team to resolve them quickly
- Apply feedback and iterate quickly to meet quality standards under tight deadlines
A day in the life
Most of your day is spent in the tools — AutoCAD, Revit, and ACC — producing and refining composite designs. You'll receive project briefs and design inputs from your team, translate them into accurate layouts, and work through reviews with your manager or design partners to get them across the finish line.
You'll ask good questions, catch things early, and take ownership of your deliverables. When something isn't right, you say so. When a deadline is close, you focus. This is a role where doing the work well — consistently and accurately — is what matters most.
About the team
The Integrated Design Solutions (IDS) team is Amazon's in-house design and scan organization, delivering the composite products that power network expansion across 17+ business units. We sit at the intersection of operational design, BIM data governance, and scan technology with direct impact on how Amazon builds, launches, and scales its fulfillment network.
Our team supports a diverse portfolio of building types including mixed-use fulfillment, pharmacy, Hazmat, Air, and Leo operations. We drive end-to-end composite delivery, clash detection, and under-the-roof design readiness ensuring design visibility is in place before breaking ground. We deploy scan technology to maintain accurate as-built composite catalogues, support Facility Twins efforts, and deliver measurable operational savings at scale.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM), as well as scheduling software (Primavera, MS Project, or similar)
- Experience using one or more of the following technologies (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SolidWorks, CREO, SketchUp, KeyShot, etc.) to deliver high quality models and designs
- Experience completing complex tasks quickly with little to no guidance and react with appropriate urgency to situations that require a quick turnaround, or experience prioritizing and handling multiple assignments at any given time while maintaining commitment to deadlines
- Experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of driving end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership experience
- 3+ years of driving process improvements experience
- Experience in stakeholder management, dealing with multiple stakeholders at varied levels of the organization
- Experience building processes, project management, and schedules

Which companies sponsor visas for architectural engineers in Tennessee?
Firms with established sponsorship track records in Tennessee include Gresham Smith, Barge Design Solutions, and national architecture and engineering firms with Tennessee offices such as AECOM and Jacobs Engineering. Healthcare system expansions across Nashville and Knoxville have also driven hiring at mid-size MEP and building systems engineering firms, some of which have filed H-1B visa petitions for architectural engineering roles.
Which visa types are most common for architectural engineer roles in Tennessee?
The H-1B is the most common visa for architectural engineers in Tennessee, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or a closely related field. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA, which covers engineers broadly. Candidates with extraordinary achievement may also explore the O-1A, though this requires substantial documented recognition in the field.
Which cities in Tennessee have the most architectural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Nashville concentrates the largest share of architectural engineering roles, driven by sustained commercial construction, healthcare campus development, and infrastructure investment. Knoxville follows, supported by proximity to Oak Ridge National Laboratory and University of Tennessee-affiliated projects. Memphis has a smaller but active market tied to logistics infrastructure and municipal building projects. Chattanooga has seen growth in manufacturing-related facility design roles as well.
How to find architectural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Tennessee?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have indicated visa sponsorship availability, making it more efficient than general job searches for international candidates. For architectural engineer roles in Tennessee, you can search by state and job title on Migrate Mate to surface positions at firms actively hiring internationally. Reviewing employer H-1B filing history through Department of Labor disclosure data can also help confirm which Tennessee firms have sponsored similar roles previously.
What should architectural engineers know about Tennessee's job market before applying for sponsored roles?
Tennessee has no state income tax on wages, which affects total compensation calculations but does not change federal H-1B prevailing wage requirements. Employers sponsoring H-1B visas must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role and location as determined by Department of Labor data. Architecture and engineering licensing through the Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners is typically required for project-of-record work, so international candidates should confirm their licensure pathway alongside the visa process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architectural engineer jobs in Tennessee?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
