Which companies sponsor visas for architectural engineers in California?
Large engineering and architecture firms with active sponsorship histories in California include AECOM, Jacobs Engineering, Gensler, HDR, and Arup. These firms regularly file H-1B petitions for architectural engineers and have established immigration processes. Smaller boutique firms do sponsor, but less consistently. Checking a company's prior H-1B disclosure data through the Department of Labor's OFLC database gives a concrete picture of their sponsorship activity.
Which visa types are most common for architectural engineer roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa for architectural engineers in California, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or a closely related field. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the NAFTA/USMCA engineer category. Australian citizens should explore the E-3 visa, which operates outside the H-1B lottery.
Which cities in California have the most architectural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles has the highest concentration of architectural engineer sponsorship activity, supported by ongoing infrastructure investment, entertainment campus projects, and a dense cluster of engineering firms. San Francisco and the broader Bay Area follow closely, particularly for tech-sector construction and seismic retrofit work. San Diego has a strong defense and biotech facilities pipeline, and Sacramento generates demand through state government infrastructure programs.
How to find architectural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search for architectural engineer roles in California without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform is built for international candidates, making it easier to identify firms actively hiring and willing to support the H-1B or other work visa processes for architectural engineering positions across California's major metro areas.
Are there any California-specific considerations for architectural engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
California's building codes, including strict Title 24 energy compliance and seismic design requirements under the California Building Code, mean employers often seek candidates with familiarity in these standards. The state's prevailing wage rules apply to public works projects, which affects how employers structure H-1B LCA wage certifications. University programs at UC Berkeley, Cal Poly, and USC also create strong local graduate pipelines that international candidates compete within.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architectural engineer jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
