Which companies sponsor visas for architectural engineers in Ohio?
Engineering and architecture firms with established Ohio offices are the most consistent sponsors for architectural engineers. AECOM, Jacobs, Stantec, HDR, and Skanska have sponsored H-1B workers in Ohio-based roles. Large healthcare systems and university facility departments also hire architectural engineers and have HR infrastructure to support sponsorship. Smaller boutique firms occasionally sponsor but do so less frequently.
Which visa types are most common for architectural engineer roles in Ohio?
The H-1B is the most common visa for architectural engineers in Ohio, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree in architectural or civil engineering, satisfying the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the NAFTA/USMCA engineer category, which does not require a lottery. Some employers also support EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship after initial H-1B approval.
Which cities in Ohio have the most architectural engineer sponsorship jobs?
Columbus leads Ohio for architectural engineering sponsorship opportunities, driven by state government infrastructure projects, a growing commercial real estate sector, and proximity to Ohio State University's engineering programs. Cleveland follows closely, with healthcare campus expansions at institutions like Cleveland Clinic creating sustained demand. Cincinnati benefits from cross-border regional projects and a concentration of firms serving the manufacturing and industrial construction sectors.
How to find architectural engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Ohio?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse architectural engineer roles in Ohio without sorting through positions that won't support your visa. Searching Migrate Mate by state and role lets you identify which Ohio firms are actively hiring internationally. Given that sponsorship willingness varies significantly by firm size and project pipeline, using a targeted tool like Migrate Mate saves considerable time in your search.
Are there state-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for architectural engineers in Ohio?
Ohio requires architectural engineers involved in public projects to work under a licensed Professional Engineer or Architect, which can affect how employers classify roles in H-1B petitions. The Department of Labor's prevailing wage determination for Ohio metro areas directly shapes the minimum compensation an employer must commit to in the Labor Condition Application. Ohio's strong university pipeline, particularly from Ohio State, University of Cincinnati, and Case Western Reserve, means employers are familiar with international graduate hiring processes.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored architectural engineer jobs in Ohio?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
